A Proud Indian Canadian
I had witnessed Gujarat 2001 earthquake, I am sure lot of people now in Canada had witnessed that earth quake. This one seems to be more of sea waves that did damage to Indian sea cost areas.
It is a real tragic episode. Still memories of previous quake give cold shivers....

What a tragedy!!
I read the news this morning when they were saying the death toll was around 3000. Now its been raised to 11000 and from the looks of it, will only go up.
Read some personal accounts on bbc and they're horrific. Let's just hope there are no aftershocks.

The Gujarat earthquake, which claimed a large number of lives, occurred on January 26, 2001.
A year later on January 26, Chennai and some parts of Tamil Nadu felt a tremor with the epicentre being off the coast of Pondicherry.
Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu experienced a tremor on Sunday morning, December 26.
