can i get a lead to a lawyer who can make a Will for self & spouse - simple stuff to cover against eventualities. what sort of costs are involved? ideas welcome. than ks
I *think* lawyers might be expensive for a simple will - I dont have the answer to your original query but wanted to point you out in a different direction:
If your wills are straightforward and not too complicated (like setting up a trust etc.) you might find it cheaper to DIY through a software. There are some will writing softwares around - you can try on the net for a deal. You just setup your will in the system, print it out and have two witnesses sign it to make it valid.
Frpom the little i know, the formal will - done by lawyers, notarized, etc - would be required - either now or after the eventuality. I was told to get it formalized now, thus saving the hassles for others - should the eventuality arise prematurely. aftr all, the will is being done to simplify and not pass on the troubles to the beneficiaries. thats my thinking, and i may stand corrected.

You do not need to have it notarized nor does it need to be drawn up by a lawyer. Your two witnesses must sign in each others presence and in your presence and must initial each page of the will. They also need to testify in court that they witnessed the will - they may instead sign an affidavit under oath which can be appended to the will and then they do not need to testify in court.
However a lot depends upon the contents of the will and to that extent only a lawyer can give you legal advice.
