Dear Everyone,

Here is a my view of Canada as a new immigrant for the past 6 months here.

1. Canada is a country which has a great economic power like America as its neighbour and a great friends like China and India but it doesnot have alot of business from there for now. Most of the outsourcing which is happening is going to Asian countries when Canada has potential and have alot of talented people to get alot of contract from the US and European nations. Why cant the government float companies to get contracts to countries like the US, UK, China, India.

2. During my visit to other parts of the world I was was told that Canada inherits the best qualities of Singapore and London. When I am here now I feel that it has to learn alot of displine in different fields from Singapore.

3. It seems that the government is not even concerned about the shooting happening here when it comes to the teenagers possesing guns. The gun culture here is not being reviewed at all. I have not seen even one government official come ahead and speak out against what has happened in the last few weeks about the shootings on television. There is not a policy change anywhere. I uppose alot of them are still in a holiday mood when alot of people are getting hurt. I put the television on and I see that someone has shot some one in this place every day.

4. Alot of posts here say Jane and Finch is an area you should be not living as it is quite a crazy area due to crime. I want to know what is the government doing to make it a better area to live in. I really dont see anything which done by the government other than living on the high taxes the people have to pay in this city.

5. The unemployment ratio can fall down dramically if the government gives tax breaks to companies which recruit employees from the HRDC unemployed databases so that the government does have to deal with alot EI claims.

6. Canada has alot of refuges. It should see how it can make alot of them on an immigrant status so that alot of taxpayers money doesnot go into the refuges issues and can be spent on programs for the tax payers them selves. We dont want to be a refuge state of the world do we.

7. Ilegal immigration might be another case the government might have to at as there must be alot of aliens in canada who are living who need to be deported as they can be a cause of concern to our nations security.

8. The public transit system can be extended alot after taking an loan from the IMF if the government has no cash for it now so that it benefits the citizens and lesser cars are used on the street which could make a big impact on the environment.

9. Immigration for parents and loved ones should be fast as it something which is esstential for a new immigrant to be with their parents close by. The immigration office says that it is taking skilled people only but it is important to have their loved ones too close by.

10. Man has gone the moon and wants to set up a living scenario out there. my question is if people are spending billions on space travel why cant they spend billion on fixing the ozone layer ?

I hope I have chartered my view and hope to have comments on this topic from every one.

A concerned Canadian

My 2 cents for Canada

Lower taxes , Privatize more , Reduce welfare programs and social programs and start charging for medical from people. There is no free lunch and they should not milk the people who make money to give it to the ones who do not .

Thats the primary reason why Canada loses people to USA . Lower taxes at all costs and get the people back who can add up to the economy . I guess I am a conservative like Steven harper .

Social services , welfare and refugees program are a big black hole . THere is never enough to put into them so why milk people who earn their hard earned money here at 43.7 marginal rat e (BC) and give to these.

Well put, Smiley.
I second all these points !

there can be many ideas to improve the situation in canada. i would like to say as i have said in previous posts ban on guns and regulating the teenagers as i feel that many are out of hand and because they are underage they are not legally liable for their actions.

i am also appalled by the high taxes on basically everything that you buy, as its a real put off. It is almost like they are punishing you for buying something. Its a matter of getting used to seeing your hard earned money going off everytime u want to get something.

its not asking for the moon, i hope that immigration of parents is next on their agenda. i heard taht the immigration minister resigned so hopefully things will change for the better.

A lot of these things are already in place, it just takes a little more understanding to be able to appreciate what already exists.

For example, the purchase of guns is already regulated. Gun ownership, to my knowledge is subject to a licensure process, and you can't walk into a Wal-Mart to buy guns here in Canada.

Fact is guns / weapons will always be accessible to gangs through an illegal channel (for example by smuggling it across the border from the States), but may not be accessible to a person who needs it for his own legitimate protection if we go over the top and say ban ALL guns.

Furthermore, provisions do exist within the law, to try teenagers as adults for their crimes, under circumstances.

Don't bet on that. I imagine that Judy Sgro's resignation will actually prevent any significant immigration policy related decisions being taken in the near future - until the mess is sorted. It does seem from this morning's coverage that some among the feds are looking at this as a transitory arrangement, she should have her ministry back, if and when she's cleared.

There is already a program called Wage Subsidy Program for unemployed by QCIC and Sheridan that reimburses an employer for 50% of wages up to 16 weeks.

I agree. Many refugees work on cash jobs and also collect money given by government. I believe medicals including medicine is free for them whereas PR has to pay for medicines. For first three months, PR has no medical coverage in many provinces.

You can put more buses on streets with more frequency but how can you run it for long if it is not profitable. If it is running at loss, again, taxpayer's money would feed the transit system.

I think you know what the government thinks in this regard.
