Hi,
A family friend of ours recently got approved for PR in Canada. He currently lives in Los Angeles and was planning to make a one week trip to Toronto, become a landed immigrant and then make the final move after 6 months. However, when he arrived at the Toronto Airport, the Immigration Officer took his passport and informed him that he'll have to stay in Canada for atleast 3 weeks before the Passports could be returned to him. I heard the story second hand from my folks so am not sure if it is true or not but I sure would like to know beforehand so when I make my "pilgrimage", I plan the time-frame accordingly. If anybody knows anything about this , I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.
Thanks

It is very rare that they'll put limitations on how long you can stay. This sound like Immigration may have some doubts about info or passport and they need to investigate or do forensic testing.
Having said all that, 2nd and 3rd hand info is usually distorted and unreliable and specific to facts of that case. Don't worry your head about that. Good luck!
