Hi! Techies,
Can you suggest me the best solution and also the company names (Vonage or Primus or Packet8 etc.) for my following needs?
I have a Rogers Hi Speed Lite Internet connection, 1 router, 1 notebook, 1 desk top PC and a fax. At this moment both my PCs go online via router and cable modem. Now I would like to switch to VOIP and also connect my fax.
1. Is the above fax connection possible using VOIP and will this be a dedicated fax line, with no interference to Internet and tel. calls?
2. Will I be using 1 Tel. no. for all the above?
3. Is it possible to carry my VOIP Tel. to anywhere on the Earth?
Please reply.
Regards,

I am not sure about Primus and Vonage, but to the best of my knowledge Packet 8(which is what I am using) does not support fax, though they are working on it. I may be wrong but that is what I know is the status as of now. I believe that if you could use fax, your phone no./fax etc. will be the same.
And yes you can carry your adapter anywhere broadband is available in the world and use it.. of course pending the quality of your broadband service..
Try broadvoxdirect.com I have been using it for the past 8 months and you can use a fax machine with the phone. Service is good and customer service is prompt as well.
broadvoxdirect offers a free fax line on the small business plan.
Just finished checking websites of both brdvoxdrt and vontage.
The rates are almost similar. The SOHO basic package from Von is C$ 56 and includes fax line. Von seems to have a lot of extra web based features and with a vast database in US, UK and Mexico, Vontage to Vontage calls are free. In addition they are also offering a virtual no. for C$ 7.99 extra per month, with which one can have a phone no. in India or anywhere in the world. I believe that Vonage adapter is FREE.
Broadvox rates once converted in C$ are almost same. However there is one time installation and delivery charge of approx C$ 50. Anyone using Vonage?
Thanks again.
