Hi,
I was checking CIC,New Delhi website and found following info for fees:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Temporary Resident Visas
Visitors
Single entry to Canada 2600 $75
Multiple entry 5200 $150
Family Rate for either single or multiple entry (All family members must apply at the same time and place) 13800 $400
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I am applying for my in laws ,they will be staying for 6 months but I prefer to apply for multiple enry visa with validity for longer time (say 3 years so that can vist my place again afterwards without appying for visa again.
Per earlier postings CD members comented that for first time vister visa CIC give visa for 6 months ..
Q1:If I apply for single entry visa will they give only for short term (say 6-12 month)
only?
Q2: If I apply for them for multiple entry visa(Fee INR5200)but in the sponsorship letter I mention about 6 month stay for this visit can CIC issue longer term(say 3 year)
Any king of advice /own expecrience will be appreciated

Hi Ani70,
When Delhi CHC issues visitor visa, it will only specify the last date before which a person can enter Canada. They do not decide the period of stay in Canada. When that person lands in Canada, officials at the airport stamp the date in the passport before which he/should leave Canada. If no such stamping is done, by default, period allowed is 6 months. You can apply for extention in Canada at the end of this period(1 month before expiry date)
So in your case, it may be advisable for you to apply for multiple entry visa, and if you are lucky, you will get it.
For any reason if it is rejected, you can immediately apply for single entry visa, but that will be an extra expenditure for you. Your invitation letter may contain a sentence asking your in-laws to apply for multiple entry visa so that they can visit you every year or something like that.
Please keep the forum updated of your experience, which will be useful to other members.
Hi,
CIC finally issued vister visa for my in laws which is valid until Aug 8,2004..actually they issued on Feb 8th and put the validity upto 6 months.
They are planning to land here on March 30th and booked a return ticket on Sept 23rd.
Some of my friends are telling that visa officer won't allow to stay beyond Aug 8 because the visa will be expired.
Some of CD members earlier posted message stating that they will allow 6 months after landing ...so I am little bit confused.
Could anyone share any recent experience I mean those who braught relatives recently on singly entry visiter visa?
Will it be better to speak to the visa officer upfront showing the confirmed return date ticket(which will be Sept 23rd)and they might allow to stay until that date?
thanks

hi Ani70,
I invited my mother this Dec her visa was issued on 28th june and was expiring on 28th dec. They came here on Dec 8th and was given 6 month entry without any problem. as it's already said it depends upon immigration officer at port-of-entry to determine the length of stay but usually its 6 months . So don't worry as long as they have return ticket.

I have a question regarding the stay/visa duration. Normally it's 6 months issued by the officer ( website says UPTO 6 months). But if the application is for Multiple Entry, as pointed by Ani70, then what additional benefit do I get ?
I know that multiple entry means you can re-enter the country. But is the visa validity long enough ?
A 6 months multiple entry visa is of no use for me. Is it something like 3 years multiple entry visa ? Well the officer may only allow 6 months stay. So, after 6 months go back to home country and come back after few months - you have your visa for 3 years.
Can anybody confirm this ? any details ?
