I watched Swades sometime back and it really thrilled me. There were a lot of positive things to be learned in it, specially for NRI's.

Although my feelings did not go to that extremes of what Sharook did but I did feel that we should do something for our country?

Any thoughts on this ?

just Curious...

We should contribue.
But Not all NRI's are in a comfortable position. As a NRI, helping other NRIs in distress equals to contributing to development of nation. Thats what CD is trying do.
Inspite of all these our people are trying their best to contribute to our mother-land.
You bought this topic on the eve of 'Republic Day'. Let us all say together 'Jai Hind'.

Reality of India is portrayed.

Just a few professionals are making good salaries.

Rest of India is still in Stone age. Specially rural India.

A person working in NASA has no job satisfaction that he wants to go back to India and raise the standard of living for a chockfull of Indians. I can't buy that, though I'm saying that this could not be possible or realistic. Nobody can afford to be so altruistic in these times to leave SUCH a career into doing something like that. If I were in SRK's shoes in the story, I would set up a fund and I would send money and make people happy so they could fend for themselves. However, Swades, in a bookish or an ideal sense is good to pep up a lesson in patriotism but it does not make sense to be so selfless out of the blue. Maybe when someone has earned so much or has been so high-profile in career, to him, little homely things like relatives and their happiness may mean a lot. But what we saw in Swades was a bit exaggerated. Will you admit a fakir into your car or an RV when you are in the remotest of towns in India? C'mon think about it and after that go around dancing with him? Doesn't make sense, and then they complain that not even one movie went to winning the Oscars. However, Swades had some good moments in it, I do not want to run the film down, but what I'm trying to say is, I would not agree to the way we have been making films in India and specially here Swades. I think a very good Indian movie was Earth-1942, where I would say, I could not pick faults even where I wanted to. That should be the standard. So after Lagaan (which I rate very high in terms of quality and overall concept) we thought that Mr Gowarikar had something worth watching, but it looked as if it was another Hindi film with better cinematography, good actors and some good moments to enjoy, like 100-200 that are released every year!

Sorry folks I don't want to be dubbed as a nit-picky, dis-loyal, cynical CD. I am just trying to be honest so we make better movies in India, making us prouder in the end!

Then I will try and put some sense into the mind of the person who loves me. If you see the film, there was no sense of conviction at all. No pros and cons realised, no reasons given, just because the girl he loved was for some alien reason so committed and devoted to her mother country. To me it did not seem that the movie was bringing across the point they wanted to convey. Maybe the script wasn't clear enough. But if I were SRK I would not just agree to what my lady-love was saying. They do have arguments but those arguments where never directed towards whether SRK was going to stay back or not. From the beginning he wanted to take Kaveriamma. All of a sudden his leaving or not conundrum erupts from nowhere.

SRK in Swadesh worked in same sequence as you mentioned....put some sense.....leave and go back to NASA....stayed few years (I guess) without love.......had to return for love and mother land........
Best scene of Swadesh was when SRK bought kulad of water from a small boy (innocence or young india) for 25 paise while traveling by train and drink it......that was rebirth of India for him (depicted by water) after return from US.....if you can recall since he returned from US SRK would carry a bottle of water with him; a very commont habit of NRI's
Movie did give out perspective of SRK and how close he would like to be to his motherland.........
