Hi Guys,

First of all, if you all felt that I was wrong in writing what I did, I do apologise.

However, you have to remember that while I am a moderator, I am a human being first, so I understand (or misunderstand) a positing first as a human being, and then analyse it as a moderator. Sometimes the first impressions created by a post is so strong that even if as a moderator I would like to change my opinion, I can't. That is what has happened in this post. When I first read it , to me it seemed a post which was an absolute carelessly worded, and hardly thought post. It almost felt like someone walking on a street and seeing a stone, kicking it, not bothering where it goes or does it hit anyone. Now you might say that nothing in this post seems like that..........well to me it did, specially because I abhor those posts which do not give ANY details from writer's side and just throw a question which could be very personal (as Raj has written it depends on the personal situation of each individual what would he term as a decent salary). And it just happens that 50 such posts would not create such a reaction, but the 51st will finally break the threshold of digesting such posts and the reaction will be what I had written.

And then look at the initial poster - even after Raj asked him a very valid question is it k/annum or $/hour, the guy had the cheek to write:

Anyone would understand that salary of 40-50 would mean k/annum

Now do you think His comment is right - can't he simply understand that it could be both - k/annum or $/hr?

And as a moderator, sometimes you can feel that not only the first post, but the following it would be as 'undesireable' (for lack of a better word, since you guys don't seem to like the word silly) too!

Chandresh, u've apologized, and that should cool of the bashers!!! No need to say anymore.

Others, I agree that every moderator is a human being, and this is not a paid job. So, let them express their personal feelings. Sure, there will be times when lines may be crossed....What i can say is that no one should shy away in saying that he/she didnt like the moderators attitude.

Bottom line, Lets no hurt each other by using derogatory words!!!

Also, perhaps a long term soln. to this potential problem is to allow moderators to post as members.... Let them show their moderator status only when they are moderating messages. Otherwise, give them that free hand that others have. They need the slack!!! This is just a suggestion, well open to criticism!!! ;)

And for a short term solution, if members object to moderators post, perhaps other moderators could step in!!! This is a designation that gives u some authorities and with that also comes responsiblities.

A generalised reply:
If on landing you get a job 40K (all figures are per annum salary) it is not a good salary. Expectations are of 60K.
If completing a part of education (post graduation) 60K is a decent start but not good for long duration.
If you did labour for couple of months / year than 30K is a very good salary and your family will feel proud.
If you are self employed an earn 50 - 60K be satisfied, shut your mouth and take care of your business :)

" Some people find gossip more interesting.... "

There we go ...... I guess this explains and answers a lot of questions.... some join for the info .... some for the sake of putting their 2 cents .... some for the sake of "GOSSIP" ...... as long as we all keep our approaches straight ......

I personnaly feel .... 40K - 50K per annum strictly depends on the individual ..... you have to relate to a certain lifestyle to judge whether the amount is enough to maintain that life style or not.

There are a lot of people I know who earn six figure salaries per annum yet live a very content and eventfull lifestyle of 50K - 60K ..... where they have a decent pad that they call their own ..... take annual vacations within a decent price ..... have managed to drive half decent cars and are very happy with what they have ......... yet I have my collegues who would never be able to feel satisfied with even a quarter million per annum.

Keep in mind ..... 40K - 50 K means that you take home about 65% to 70% home as cash. Break it down into living expenses for yourself ( whether 1 person or family ) afterwards keep a little bit as savings for your retirement or rainy days etc etc ....... it is not very difficult to figure these things out for yourself ....

.... On a personnel note ... I personnely find it wierd when people have such questions.... what U need to know is what is it you want to do with the money that you would be able to take home after taxes ..... an open ended question like "is XYZ amount good enough for a salary ..... well you are setting yourself up for more confusion from what you already have .... But then these are my 2 cents .....

I don't think there was any need for Chandresh to have apologized. Fresher's was an unintelligently written post and that makes it silly then that is what it should be called. Silly! Instead of nursing hurt egos, learn and try not to be silly again. Points like making headings more sensible, making posts clearer, and asking questions in details have been suggested several times over and over again. If despite that, someone comes in and posts a message with just one word "Salary" in the subject line, then it does indeed make him silly. And yes, salaries in the range of $40-$50 per hour are not unheard of. So, Fresher's response in "Any body would understand Salary of 40- 50 means K/annum." is unwarranted and wrong.

In one of your replies to some asking how to get a refund of the RPRF you gave an irresponsible answer, not appropriate for a Global Moderator.

mimipapa It seems you lack attention and fail to see where humour is intended. In the thread quoted by you, I did not find Chandresh's reply sarcastic from any angle. He was just being humourous and that was amply evident from the "big grin" smiley that he attached to his note.

I am not trying to take sides or anything but I find it quite weird when people lose their sense of humour.

As for the mods, it has to be realized that they are on this board as regular members and also play the role of moderator. There is no reason why they should not be allowed the same leeway and freedom to express themselves as ordinary members only because they have taken on additional responsibility as a mod.

My suggestion to mods:
When posting something as a moderator, in order to make clear that what is being posted is when you are playing the role of one, please prefix your post with something like

[/]Moderator hat on

Here say what you have to say as a mod..

[/] Moderator hat off.

After this you are back to your role as an ordinary member and post like one.
