Dear All Desis,
Would be flying after a long gap of 8 years and that to for a long haul flight. Have flown much before but this time, it is giving the jitters. Has anyone been in such a situation before. Would be flying from Mumbai to Toronto. How does one overcome such a situation ? All help is welcome.
1) Statistically, one's chances of dying in a car accident are much higher than in a plane crash.
2) When you encounter bumps in the flight, you should think of the sensation as your car hitting potholes. A car ride always has its share of bumps and those don't scare you, so why should some turbulence in the plane? Its VERY normal.
3) Think about the pilot and the crew. These guys fly pretty much every other day and do it for years. If flights were that dangerous, do you think they would be able to?
4) Maybe some deep breathing exercises would help?
Its one of the safest means of travel so relax and enjoy the ride.

Are you there?
Confused Desi,
Have a peg before take-off, buddy.
Your journey will become blissful.

ur not alone!!!. It is a normal reaction to ur perceived threat!!!
The first reaction u will get from most people is have a peg or two
That was my first reaction too... Its impulsive... But its more of a joke and IMHO what you really need is a better understanding of what ur really dealing with here.
I just found a website that provides a free online course on how u could tackle this issue. Go thru http://www.fearofflyinghelp.com and let us know how u feel about it.
I myself went thru this course today (quickly, cause i dont have this fear), but i believe u should probably take ur time to go thru this depending on how its working out for u.
I recommend it for others too... Good knowledge!!! something we can either use for ourselves or to help others.
BTW, There was this one catchy line that got me laughing :
"It can be easy to play a "disaster movie" in your mind with you in the starring role! When you catch yourself starting the production of one of these imaginary "disaster movies" turn off the projector" LOL
Good luck!!!
