Hi Guys,
1) Like to check one of the requirement for citizenship: Does one needs to be in canada for 3 out of 5 years or 3 out of 4 years to be eligible 2 apply for citizenship? Googl'n gave me conflicting results.
2) The 3 years stay; does it need to be at a stretch or it can be in chunks of months e.g. 4 months in canada then 3 months outside canada, again 5 months in canada etc
3) I am a PR holder with 2 years in canada. I am leaving the country but would like to preserve my PR and Keep it valid ; how often do I need to visit canada so that my PR does not expire or die?
Thanks

smiley is absolutely right. I don't understand why 'google' for such answers when everything is stated pretty clearly on cic.gc.ca

2) you are good for another 3 years to be outside but could have problems coming into canada as to prove your intent to live in Canada to the immigration officer

And what sort of penalties / restrictions can one face in that situation? Can the Visa officer deport you / not allow you to enter Canada?
Any ideas on this one?

To my knowledge, the new PR obligation in force since June 2002 (730 days physical presence in Canada in a 5 year period) was to remove the 'intentention' factor (prevalent prior to June 2002) and to present a simple test for retaining residency.
The following page:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomer/res-oblig.html
talks only about fulfilling one's residency obligation in 'every five year period'

If you stay 3 yrs out of Canada and try to enter canada saying that you would be in for the next 2 years , or the other way , The immigration office "may" ask you to show docs to prove residency intent or proof of your staying
Hope this helps
