I am being offered a position in Montreal for $85K and currently earn$65k in Toronto.

Ontario income tax rate is 37% for the tax bracket over $71,190 up to $115,739

Quebec income tax rate is 50% for the tax bracket over $71,190 up to $115,739.
But there is a clause which states that Quebec taxpayers also get a federal tax abatement (reduction) of 16.5% of basic federal tax.

Would somebody in QC give me an exact picture of the income tax rates vis a vis Ontario.

Thanks,
Jack 109

Hi Jack,
You are right. Heres a link
http://www.taxtips.ca/tax_rates.htm#QCTaxRates
You will probably have less disposable income here than in Ontario(salary being equal).

Some other points...housing is cheaper in Mtl than in TO.

Also the lib govt has just released a paternal leave programme(I think its about time onsidering the taxes we pay). 5 weeks paid for Dad's. Child assistance even if you are self-employed. Increased child assistance etc.
Also we already had a 7dollar a day daycare programme. So all this is in addition to that

I think its a good salary to have in MTL and a good move to make(***this is based only on the salary details you have provided***).

If you get $85K in Montreal after all deduction your take home will be around $2200 every two weeks.

Thanks
