I had sponsored the visit visa of my mother - in-law who lives in India. She is a widow, but has a son and daughter living in India. She is 66 years old.

My mother in law did not visit Delhi personally. Instead she sent her grandson to Delhi to use the "drop box" facility

Her application for a visit visa was declined on a few grounds. The two reasons the visa officer wrote for this were:

A)The visa officer was not convinced that the applicant would return to India when her visa expired, and

b) The assets she shoed in our bank balance were not "suffecient to support her stay in Canada. ( We had shown $ 7500 as assets). We incidentally own a house in Mississauga.

My mother in law will be re applying for a visit visa shortly. I would greatly appreciate if I can get advice as to how to convince the visa officer about the doubts mentioned above.

I am willing to pay for legal advice if needed.

Thanks.

Typical Canadian consulate BS.
We went thru the same thing last year.
These reasons are ad-hoc and don't mean anything.
And guess what - there is nothing you can do about it.

We contacted out local MP, he sent a letter to CHC, New Delhi - nothing happened.

The consulates are judge, jury and executioner.

I don't know what else to tell you.
You should re-apply later when you can provide more information.
If she re-applies using the current information, it will probably be denied once again.
That's what the MP told us.

I am surprised that you had to declare your bank balance. Why? Were you asked? Or did you do it on your own?

As for me, I had sponsored my parents and this is all I had written to the visa officer from here

I have been a permanent resident of Canada since <whenever>.
·I am working as a <your job> with <your employer> since <whenever>.
·I am confirming that I will bear all expenses of my parents including stay, food, medical, insurance, travel etc.
·I have sufficient income to support their expenses

Along with the letter I sent a copy of my last T4. Both documents were notarized. My parents went to Delhi, submitted the 2 documents and their passports, were interviewed for a few minutes and given tourist visa valid for a year. No hassles at all. No bank statement required anywhere. Who asked you for it?

Anyways, tt seems it has more to do with the type and nature of the visa officer who gets your case. There are no hard and fast rules.

I don't know if visa refusal can be legally challenged. Even if it were, I would think it would be protracted battle to win.

More and more such cases.
Maybe they think that every old age person who comes here is going to apply for immigration while on Canada.

and they just might not be wrong.

After all, I had done the same thing.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
