Hi all!
We are an Indian family (wife +2 sons 16 & 10) who have completed our landing last year and we have decided to stay in Vancouver. We are presently based in Dubai and will reach Vancouver by mid-August this year. We have our PR and SIN cards. Apart from browsing through various topics relevant to us on this very useful site, I request your opinions / advise on the following :
1. What is the best economical option to stay in Vancouver for the first 3 nights upon landing?
2. What are the chances of finding a suitable (affordable) rental accom within the first 3 /4 days near to amenities schools/ shops / Indian community?
3. What are the recommeded schools (for grades 6 and 11) in Vancouver so we could look for rentals within those school boundaries.
4. We are wondering if we should move all our household / furniture (cost CAD 7000) OR buy furniture locally? How much would it cost to buy basic furniture required to settle in, i.e. sofa, beds + mattresses + dining table + chairs etc?
5. Anyone moving to Vancouver from Dubai? We could exchange notes prior to departure.
6. Looking forward to interacting / meeting with Vancouver residents who would like to share experiences, offer advise / suggestions / valuable inputs, which will be much appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation,
pvp
Hi moved from Abu Dhabi to Calgary and going to move to Vancouver next month.
Within three days getting an apartment is very difficult. Normally apartments are rented from the beginning of the month. If you arrrive middle of the month then you may start in your apartment from next 1st. If you are lucky some apartments will be available during middle of the month.
There are furhished acco available look from internet book in advance. During summer months Vancouver is crowded.
Based on area you will get schools. Visit http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/reportcards/index.asp?snav=rc
I would prefer Surrey instead of Vancouver city. because housing is cheaper in surrey and it is 40km form city
I sold all my furnitures and bought it here. It is worth and you get good warranty and returns here
Regards
Siva
Srisiva,
Please, are there leaning points for some of us, planning to move to Calgary, to gain from your decision to change location [Calgary to Vancouver]? That is, any disappointments in terms of job expectations, standard of living, accommodation, environmental issues, weather, social life etc since you entered Calgary. This will definitely help us in honing our last preparation efforts.
Thanks,
Phuan1
Mods can you pls relocate this post to the relevant section... This has nothing to do with STUDY in Canada
