Hi Guys,
I am moving to TO just got work permit from embassy. There are few doubts concerning the relocation expenses. My employer agreed to pay me the air flight and I am not sure if its going to be one way fare or both way. wat u guys suggest shall I buy return ticket or only one way. Do u think if I buy return ticket and even if my emplyer agrees to pay for one way, can i claim the other way fare from my income tax.
Another thing I wanna have a stop over of about 3 weeks in Germany. i.e. I wanna break my journey at Frankfurt and after 2-3 weeks I want to resume my journey to TO. Is it possible?? Any good travel agents around Delhi?? I will be going delhi next week to cut the deal.
Please let me know.
Thanks
sandy

Hi Das,
If I know answer of these questions why shall i post this thread here. As far as the question of return ticket is considered I know many ppl got their return ticket cashed from the emplyer. At the same time I agree that ideally he should not pay the other way. Unfortunately my stop over is not just holidays infact thats for some work purpose. I just thought if I can claim the remaining amount in taxes becauseI heard that u can claim your moving expenses in the taxes. I was not aware of canadian regulations and its always better to ask someone than to do some silly mistakes.
Thanks for showing the right direction.
cheers

Please note what the OP is saying. He said he has got a work permit.
AFAIK, work permit is for a specified period of time, after which it has to be either renewed or an alternative method has be found by the employee to continue his stay here, else he has to go back to his country of origin.
Under the above circumstances, there is absolutely nothing wrong in the employee asking for a return ticket since, as far as the current employer is concerned the employee is being sponsored for a specific period and therefore should be compensated for both to and fro expenses.

While being deputed for consulting assignments to different countries on work-permit, we (employee and spouse) used to get to and fro air fare, accommodation arrangement, car lease, other job related expenditures, once in two year company paid trip etc... This information is for people who dont know how consulting assignments work for bigger companies in India.
