Yeah, the appropriate clothing did help. T-shirt, Shirt, sweater & winter jacket, winter cap, thermal wear under pants & gloves.

Taking bus would mean waiting for 30 minutes in the extreme cold at night & that would be even more difficult. My office timings, train & bus times were such. I decided to walk so that one gets the warmth from that too & could reach home in 20-25 minutes.

I could not afford cab as it would have cost 6 dollars every day.

Alexm, health care is free in other provinces except Alberta & British Columbia. Also, not everything is covered. Prescription drugs, dental, eye care, etc. are not covered unless you get a separate medical coverage.
