Hi Icecream,
I agree with you, ice cream. As long as one is committed, one should go ahead and study.
But, an important point is being missed here. Can ptm (or a person of 18 go for full time studies) go for full time studies? The below are my observations:
1. Education in Canada is expensive. One will have to budget atleast around 6-7K for the whole program. And mind you, he has to provide food, shelter and clothing to his kids..Since he is 40, I am assuming his kids will be in their teens and they will have their own requirements too. YOu will need atleast 1,500 to 2000$ for the basic survival in canada. Do the maths and you will realise the financial impact of the whole situation and make a judgement by yourself.
2.Assuming he does CGA studying full time and he gets CGA when he is 42. ptm will not have any canadian experience and he might end up working as temp or contract with various agencies, making 18-20$ per hour (if he is luckyand without any benefits like medical ) and entry level accounting jobs could earn 40-45K and not more than that. I know a few CGAs with several years of experience making around 50K.
3.Again, he will be competing with canadian born 25-30 years old people with qualification. Whom will you hire in your company? a 42 year old with no canadian experience or a person who is in his/her late 20s with a canadian education and experience?
I am not discouraging anyone, just trying to say what I know about canada. Again luck is a major factor, you will never know..

hi icecream,
thanx for ur encouraging words.
actually another desi on this board told me that i am too
old to go to canada and start it afresh.
as u said u feel like twenty.
yeah u rightly said for better kids future canada is better than
india. during my last visits there i found its tough to get job
there but for canadian educated kids i dont know what is the
job scene.but here in india its so tough and competitive.
here in delhi i found students scoring 90% marks are not
getting admission in the colleges of there choice.
i again thanks for ur positive thoughts.
Mr. Timon,
you rightly described the possible scenerio after my moving
over there. almost same calculations i have made. i am expectiing around 50k after three years when i will become cga . and i think i will be able to save then around INR30k monthly if i live a simple life. once in this thread u said may be i am more interested in canada for financial reasons but its no so. here in delhi i am having parental house and reasonable practice with a staff of two. and i think if i work whole-heartedly for another 2 years , i can expend my practice to enable me to save around 70-80 pm.
it is mainly for better quality and kids future i wish to move there.
since coming back here in india one year back , i am not able to decide whether to move to canada or staty here .
i first landed there on 25-2-2002 and till date has accumulated only 133 days stay in canada. i got travel document which is valid upto 7-8-2005.
i dont know whether i will be able to fulfill 730 days requirement if i go there.
and mr. timon u said future in india.
here rich are getting more richer and poor more poorer. system is such.
can u tell me when last time u came here. u can imagine how much tough competition is here. daughter of one of my relative who scored 90% marks is not able to get admisssion in college of her choice.
i dont know whether it is same in canda. but here quafied engineers(excluding IITians) working for salaries around 5-6 thousand.
u can imagine qualfied docotors working in small nursing homes or charitable hospitals for salaries amounting 10,000 pm.
qualified ca are working for similar salaries. u cannot even dream to take a flat( costing around 20 lacs) on mortgage .forget about buying a car.
recently power companies here hiked rates by 10%.
things are not so rosy here. offcourse growth is here . after introduction of metro things has improved slightly.but overall impact on common man is hardly there. nearly 2.5 lacs person added from local population in delhi and another 2.5 lacs comes from other states to delhi. i dont know much about other states but here in delhi things are such . crime is on extreme.
TIMON
it is easier to say that i can come back india for savings of 30k but i am sure even if u get savings of 100k u will run back to canada within a month.
