HI,

I find the picture of the day ( a picture of an indian washroom) aka "bathroom", "lavatory" (sp?) gross, and dirty. I am still at a loss to understand - what's the aestheitic value of such a picture - a place where we deposit our human waste?

I think this guy who posted this picture must be of unsound mind, to say the least. The webmaster could have this picture deleted, in the interest of good sense.

Are there others who think the same way?

I, for one, did not find anything gross about it. In fact, all it did was made me smile. I don't think the poster had anything more in mind than mild humour in posting the pic.

Moreover, what was, or is, so wrong in showing a pic of an Indian style lavatory? I am sure, quite a few desis, especially those that have been firmly accustomed to the desi way of crapping, must indeed be missing the squat.

Although I myself prefer the commode for comfort, I have to say that the desi style is far better in terms of hygiene. As far as possible, I try and avoid using public toilets here. Who knows what skin infection or disease the previous users had on the seat that you intend to use? Uggh...!

I also can't imagine what standards of hygiene these westerners maintain using toilet paper?

at 15.30 hours on wednesday 3rd august, I still found the picture on the website.

Now as regards the debate about the picture, I am not debating the usefulness of the Indian style "commode" as opposed to the western style w.c (water closet). What I found distasteful was why this person who posted it, found it aesthetically good, to upload here. If it was a picture of Mount Vesuvius, or the ubquitous Tajmahal or the leaning tower of pisa, there would certainly lot to say (or write about). Personally, I would find it difficult to go beyond a few sentences to wrtie about the Indian style "Commode".

As regards the usefulness or the history behind the object in the picture, I see nothing, beyond saying that it is a human waste depository. To say that it does have it's usefulness might be right.

However, does it warrant a place on this website that thousands( if not millions) of CD's access everyday?

Is there a rule somewhere that the posted picture has to be "aesthetically good"?

As I said earlier, I am quite sure the poster just had some humour in mind only to smile and carry on!
