Is it true that Toronto has a high crime rate especially teen crimes and at schools. The reason I am asking this is that I had to make a choice of staying either in Missisauga or Toronto and I had chosen Toronto. But, someone told me that don’t go to Toronto as the crime rate is high and its not safe with kids to live there, is this true??

Ice Cream, it all depends on how much money you are willing to spend, whether you have arranged employment, etc. Now, assuming you dont, again its a question of how many dependents you have, etc.

Good news is that right now it is a renter's market and a lot of apartments will give you 1 month free, throw in free parking and even give you a 27\" television free, if you sign a 1 year lease!

Here is a good suggestion - there is a small enclave of apartments in the Don Mills + Wynford area called Wynford Hts. Crescent. There are four apartment buildings set in very neat and safe surroundings. Average rent for a 1 bedroom = $850 to $950 with central a/c, indoor pool, etc. Keep adding $150/mo for every additional bedroom. The location is very central with access to DVP and busses. And yes, it si very safe and conveneient out there.

hope this helps. Good luck with your move.

Vancouver? I used to live there before I moved to Toronto. Surrey has a large Desi population although most are second and third generation Canadian. Rents are reasonable, but its a long commute to downtown Vancouver. If you want to be closer to Vancouver downtown, have good Translink (bus) connections and yet economise, a safe and fairly good neighbourhood is Marpole. Try around 70th Avenue and Oak st. area. Walk around and you will see 'For Rent' ads posted on sidewalks and also look atthe local papers like the Vancouver sun classifieds. Downtown Eastside (East of Cambie ) can be a fairly unpleasant place to live I remember, but if you go further South on Commercial Dr, Main St, etc., it is OK.

Thanks madcow,

My husband will be joining BCIT in Burnaby and we have to be close around to that area, as he will be studying part time, working part time and it shouldn’t be much of a problem for him to commute. For the kids and me I think this place is ok especially I heard that Metrotown, Burnaby is a good area. We will be landing in the first week of December, 2005.
