Folks, I see that many people are posting information about citizenship. Here is timeline for a friend on mine:

1. Applied- Sept. 2004
2. Received confirmation letter- Feb. 2005
3. Received letter to appear for test- July 2005 (test on july 19th)
4. Received letter for taking oath - August 2005 (Oath on August 19th)

Seems pretty fast in his case..dont know if your experiences are similar.
If you need more info.. let me know and I can find out for you.

Hi!
I would like to give you all my time lines (all approximate).
Applied : Mid June 2005
Ack. Recd. : Mid July 2005
Citizenship test date announcement : 5 Jan. 2006
Citizenship Test : 20 Jan. 2006.

FYI i got 17 questions coorect and hence i pass my citizenship test. ( i calculated the result on my own. Also i answered correctly the questions from 16 to 20).
The lady told us that we will be informed about the Oath in 6 to 8 weeks!
What do CD folks think about this processing time.
Also i want to know that if i get my citizenship card can i enter USA with my Citizenship card (and not my canadian Passport)?
Thanks for looking through my post.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

tamilkuravan, according to the latest posting on the US embassy website (and from what I have seen at the border), you WILL need your canadian passport to cross the border 99% of the time. However you can still try to cross by having your citizenship card and your indian passport with you. The best thing would be to call the US embassy (or even the US Border agency directly) and ask them. Congratulations on becoming Canadian! My wife will be applying next year; I hope it goes as quicklky as yours.
p.s.: It doesn't take very long to get your Canadian passport; I applied for my passport the same day I got my citizenship and got it within 10 days.

Hi,
I have not yet become a canadian citizen but will be in around 10 weeks time. The problem in getting a canadian passport is that i have to see a notary to guarentee me and due to my hectic work schedule (7 days a week, 12 hrs. a day) i donot know when will be able to see a notary. and then it will take 10 days more to get a passport. That is why i was worried. I was planning to attend my sister-in-law's delivery around april/may in USA . Anyway it seems that i would have to get a passport.
Thanks for the info.. Was very useful
Regards,
TK
