Hi all,
I'm considering an assignment(short-term for now) in the above place. In comparing the cost of living San Clemente seems much more expensive than Montreal or even Toronto. Anybody have any opinions/experience of the place. In particular schools, rental accom and general state of economy. Oh yes...taxes too(whats the federal tax rates like there....links?).
I've done only a limited amount of mousework so far so any helpful links will do fine too.

I lived for a short period (few months) around the bay area. Outrageous rents. It was only ok because I was sharing the appartment with 2 other folks. Something to consider if you are not going there with your family. Also that made it easier for me to leave it when I moved to another project in another state. I have heard the same about other places in Ca. Since this doesnt seem like its close to any of the big cities (from the map it is midway between LA and San Diego), it might have cheaper rents.
Currently CA has the highest gas prices. Dont know if this has bearing on your calculations.
Tax will depend on how much you are making.
But really I wont think much about moving to Ca. Just the weather alone is reason enough for that.
Enjoy, when and if you go.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
thanks merc. Its just for a short term assignment...6 months or so. Unless I really love it there...i'll be back in Montreal(conveniently, after the winter).
If and when I go.
any other opinions/experiences/links welcome.

Not very sure from a cost perspective as I have only been there on visits.
Actually, CA is one state that I think one should visit, not stay - because of the out of control real estate prices etc.
But if you enjoy the outdoors it's heaven. The national parks in CA are amazing. And you are within spitting distance of the Channel Islands park, which I believe has been called the Galapagos of North America because of the diversity of marine life. Other parks like Sequoia etc - even though they may not be as talked about as Yosemite are beautiful too.
Then you have Napa Valley, although that might be a bit far from where you are.
I think the experience will fantastic, even if not monetarily.
