I do not know if this is the right area for this post. The message though is clear. Can we share our experiances about the "free" culture that attacks on the mind of our children?
I have child aged four and half years and he has started going to KG from last year. I have a nephew of 9 years of age and understands many things he is supposed to know at a much later stage of his life. As a parent one would obviously start worrying especially he / she has a daughter. I have been aware of at least 3 families who have migrated to Canada for 3-10 years and they have daughter/s studying in school and the parents are reviewing their decision to migrate here.
One good suggestion is to actively involve children in regilious activities so that they have a strong cultural foundation which help them deciding what is fair! Please share some more ideas.
out of curiosity, why does it matter if its a girl versus a boy who is understanding \"many things he (or she) is supposed to know at a much later stage of his (or her) life\".
but furthermore, if these \"things\" are what i think you're talking about, why does it matter so much?

I know many friends who are concerned about imparting culture / religion / morals on their offsprings.
First, I think it is important to separate religion, culture and morals from each other. While they intersect at some points, they are not bound together. For example, you don't have to be religious to be moral, or vis-a-versa.
Second, I believe culture to be fluid. It is an evolving entity. Your grandparents will tell you that your parents are culturally different from them, and your parents will tell you that you are different from them. And so it goes. I also believe that culture is evolving at an accelerated pace. It took many generations to see a cultural change, few generations ago. Now, every offspring may be subjected to a different culture. This "fluidity" affects everybody, whites, blacks, browns, purples and greens.
Third, I think morals are more important than religion. While religion is supposed to teach and impart moral values, it has a lot of other "baggage". And I am not even referring to the recent reports mentioned by Charlie.
Finally, as far as religion is concerned, I can only say that I am not religious. My plan is to impart an abridged version of religion to my kids with an emphasis on morals. Simply said than done.

i have heard from lots a parents especially settled in western contries that they are most worried about their children and their morals. True that there is a moral degradation happening especially among youngsters all over the world. but, how can we, as parents prevent it from happening to our kids. The only things that comes to my mind are
1. Be a good example.
2. Teach them in love and discipline.
3. Given them your time.
some one once said " When your child is young he needs your time and not your money, but when he becomes a teenager, he needs your money and not your time"
Children are our greatest investment. And they should also be our priority.
Cheers!
A fantastic post in my view! Very clear and learned thinking put succinctly!
