Got to learn something new, glad I got involved in this discussion. I believe my mother meant Sury Uday ( Sun rise) and I took it to Sun light. My puja room is facing south that means I need to move it to facing east or north.
I heard that North-east is an ideal location to construct a pooja room.Alternatively, it can be also be constructed in east or northern portion of the house. Ishan Kon(north-east) is the most auspicious place of Vastu God and he himself governs this direction. Ishan kon(north-east) is the ideal place for a pooja room. You should place it such that you face East or North while performing Pooja. Also, keep north-east space/corner of every room of your house clean for better results.
