My Canadian Experience By: sri60 Hi All, article.php?id=282 |
I AGREE WITHMR SHREEDHARAN IN ARTICLE MY EXPERIENCE WITH CANADA. YES EVERY COUNTRY HAS ITS GOOD POINTS AND BAD POINTS.ITS ENTIRELY UPTO US TO EXTRACT BEST OUT OF EVERYTHING.ONE MAY GO TO MOST SECLUDED,MORBID PLACE IN THE WORLD BUT IF ONE HAS AN URGE TO LEARN ,ONE CAN DEFINATELY GRASP A LOT AND TURN EVERY MOMENT INTO A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE.

Hi guys.,
I know every one has its own story of canada.come -
I was very well settled in India with my husband working as a dy gen manger and having my own house with servants ... well most of us would be.
prior to coming i was always thinking -- hi when will i go to canada my dream country., and again same thing., i was so taken with this immigration thought that i prayed kept fasts and what not to immigrate here. my prayers were answerd and came to canada in 2004 end.
what a mistake i made.. sold my house., all policies encashed and liquidated anything i could in order to settle here.
after coming and in these two years... i want to warn every one... be prepared to start your career from zzero - education - no value., no one even bothers to see your degrees., your certificates or anything you think will help you to settle here.
I am an executive assistant.. my thoughts were that every city has a requirement for the executive assisstant to run the industry. how wrong i could be., i am competing with the best of industry knowledge in india - delhi., best of experience in canada - ibm., still i find no job because everywhere i go i find a challenge- competing with goras... I have the best of trainings in ibm., best of all experience and almost reach to the level of final interview but there when gori or gora comes., they select their skin.
Please remember that you might have the best of knowledge, experience, training or anyting you or consultants feel good about you but you do not have fair skin.,
I have yet to see desi on a senior position of a company. trust me you will only be working as middle level job - sr positions- no way...,
you know the line "we are equal opportunity company"is a stagima for all of us this line itself speaks that we are not equal and few of the company would think us in equal terms but when fair skin comes the equality line vanishes. we fill in the form as visible minority group., and we are treated like one.
my husband is educating himself in banking profession from scratch. he is working seven days to support family., education., it is pathetic..,
so guys think before coming to canada. now a days i have seen people returning back to their home land fast enough after the first taste of hmmm bitter taste of settlement.
let me know what should we do... if anyone has any opinion
thanks
Hi Guys,
I was also doing very well back in India as most of us do, but still wanting to come to Canada (currently in work permit). Certain things which I made very clear to myself before making this decision:
a) I won't be at the same level in job as I was in India, but having said that the responsibility will be less and I would be able to devote more time to my family.
b) My move is primarily for kids, I don't know if I will be sticking to Canada after my kids grow up. So, I am not going to sell my house in India at any cost.
c) Will take up a job which gives me a balance i.e., more time for kids and a salary by
which i can save for future for kids education and my pension. Not looking to work my way to be a millionaire.
d) Not particular to settle in a desi area, the kids will eventually assimilate in Canadian populace. I myself is from Southern India and married to a Punjabi as I have lived whole of my life in Punjab. Don't know much about South Indian culture.
e) Will go for a city were I have more time for my family and would prefer few desi friends. I have seen my friends in TO though living there they hardly get to interact with other desi's. It won't be easy for me to make close friends at my age, I have very good friends back home and i am happy talking to them every couple of weeks.
f) My primary factor is for kids and I feel being here if you spend 1hr daily with kids on their education you will prepare them to lead a lot better life. This is possible if office commute time is less in the city.
I don't dream that life in Canada is rosy, but one thing I am sure that it can be very good for kids if they do well in education.
