I have friends and relatives in the IT sector both in India and in NA. My observation based on the feedback is that those in desh are not only much better off, they have more job security than the one in NA. Look at Nortel. They laid off left and right. Whenever there is a lay off in NA, first hit would be foreigners. Dont forget the H1B holders in USA. They are always in line for layoff. If the company meakes less profit (not loss), first thing that comes to the mind of the top executives is lay off. That's an easy way out. How come those top execs dont get fired? That's a different issue.
Job security is better in India for techies as compared to NA. If u work in NA for a few years and move to desh, u can get great offers. Couple of my friends have moved back and are getting more than a 50k per month take home salary. Not to forget the benefits, etc.

I am sure this can be best answered by a CA or an Engineer who is not in IT ~ who are better qualified and put in same if not more amount of time and get lesser salaries.
Last year when I visited b lore I spent a great weekend with some IT friends of mine who let me have the feeling that weekends are weekends .... and I see the same culture in Gurgaon also ....
In India due to outsourcing and cheap labor (not necassarily quality ) jobs are dime a dozen and companies are finding it difficult to hold attrition unlike herein N America where work culture is based on sincerity and commitment .
