KOZHIKODE: The city police have slapped a case against an Ayurvedic practitioner and owner of a hospital on the charge of sheltering a foreigner without informing the police.

Officials said that Medical College Police had registered a first information report (FIR) against T.J.Anish, owner of the Aditya Ayurvedic and Research Centre at Kovoor here. Although he had informed the police about the arrival of two Saudi Arabian nationals, who had been under treatment at the centre, he failed to report about their bystander who was also a Saudi Arabian citizen.

The police said that a case was registered against Dr. Anish under Section 3 (e) read with 5 of the Foreigner’s Act, 1945.

As per the Act, those who give shelter or accommodation to foreigners should report the arrival of the latter to the city police within 24 hours.

However, Dr. Anish was not aware that the bystander was also a foreigner, the police said.

Over a fortnight ago the Medical College Police had registered a case against a Bangladesh national, Mustafa Ghazi, who left without a trace after staying in the city illegally for a few months.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ghazi had been teaching English at an institute in the city and another at Kunnamangalam, 15 km from here, for a month and a half. He had occupied a flat at Veliparamba and had also stayed at a rented house at Kottully here.

According to the police, Ghazi had demanded money from his students to take them to the U.K.

He went missing after the students complained about this to the institute authorities. The institute authorities informed the police when he failed to come for work.
