Stating that Ram Sethu was part of India's cultural heritage, he said it also got scientific value as the region had rich thorium deposits.
Asserting that the issue involved questions of faith, environment and tsunami concerns, he said aligning with believers and nationalists, the BJP would stall "any move to destroy the Ram Sethu."
Asking party workers to be ready for a snap poll to Parliament, he said the UPA government would fall any day.

The remark was not funny. It was a logical statement. If you think that Engineers built everything themselves, then you are wrong. An Engineer designs/ conceives the structure (especially structural engineers as in this case) and instructs workers to build it. That is what Lord Ram did and thus Karunanithi considers him as an Engineer and wants to see his degree.
BTW, You must be knowing that Karunanithi is an Aethist but he is a storehouse of knowledge on Tamil and poetry/literary works. Though he is a crook, he is one of the best CM's that Tamil Nadu has had for a very long time. I respect Karunanithi very much.

Again, if I recall Ramayan correct - it was an Idea of Hanuman to create this Bridge. Lord Ram was Director of the project so to say. Director does not need to be an Engineer.

Can Karunanidhi dare to comment about any other religious leader? Absolutely not, because he would have got the answer by now and would have been in pathetic condition. The impression of Ram followers are such that anybody can say anything about them because people feel that they are weak.

The statement made by Karunanidhi is absolutely for political interest and it is totally irrerelevent to the issue. If he wanted to argue he could do that positively.

I am not surprised at Karunanidhi's words !!! This pervert had been playing these anti-Hindu cards in the name of aethism.. He doesn't have the b...s to say that he is anti-hindu bcos of losing votes.. He calls himself an aethist, talks against hindu gods but joins his Muslim Brothers ( !! ) for prayers at Marina Beach and Christian Brothers at Santhome Church..
He has been very careful in pleasing the minorities for their vote bank and the minorities like him so much bcos they get all the priveleges..

When a project is worth 2500 crores, some of our politicians will disown even their parents, spouse(s) and children. It is after all Ram and his Sethu. To get a honarary doctrate degree from a famous University in TN, a student leader protesting against the award was killed and his poor parents were threatened by the police to say that the dead body was not their son's. The latest news is the grandson's tv channel is bereft of all the staff who have shifted their camp to that of the grandfather.
