Hello,
I have been looking into migrating to Canada. I did a self assessment at the Canadian Immigration site (http://www.cic.gc.ca/), and scored 67 points (far short of 75 points required). However, if I do have a job in Canada, my score goes up to 82 points.
Here are my category scores:
Education (Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. University) 20
Language Ability (high in English) 16
Work Experience (8 years in technical field) 21
Age (36) 10
Arranged employment 0
Adaptability 0
67
So it seems that without a job offer (btw, I am also single) and being married, I don’t have a chance to migrate to Canada. Is my assumption correct?
Thanks
Yes your assumption is right. The current point systems emphasis on your ability to merge with Canadian society quicly so they look for job offer and relationship. But I don't think this condition is going to last for ever. They have to change law, as they are needing immigrants badly.
There are provincial nominee programs also. Each province have different point systems and you can try that.

Ah..bummer. Thanks for your help. I did look at the provincial nomination. It seems rather confusing. Guess I need to talk to a lawyer who is familiar with it.
Best regards
Yes, sadly the typical single Indian bachelor's degree holder scores 67. If you have a validated job offer, you are in quickly otherwise your options are as follows:
- learn french
- marry someone with at least a degree
- study for a Master's programme in Canada.

Hello Massood,
Thanks for the reply. I have already started applying for masters programs. After getting that, my score does come up to 76 points. I have couple of questions:
1: Can I do a part time study at a foreign student?
2: Would it be possible to get work permit during the studies?
You are an imigration lawyer, correct? How can I contact you off line?
Regards
Ray
