Regarding off loading, this is a reality in air travel. I have found out the best way to aviod any problems is to arrive at the airport before they open the counter. That way you are right in front when they start chek in. Very rarely will you be asked to pay for extra baggage also if you are right infront.
Have had good & bad experience with almost all airlines.

AI still operates under the Govt. carrier mode... most employees behave like govt. babu's and I doubt if there is any sort of appraisal process for them even!
Now that I have bashed AI, I also want to credit the flight attendants on my flight from BOM to Paris (in 1995, see my earlier posting) for being helpful to see if there are any AI flights out of Paris to JFK. They also let us their secret that we were lied to by the gate agents in BOM and DEL about flight availabilities and said they do that on a regular basis...how nice!
Also, there was one AI employee (out of the whole bunch) in DEL who witnessed our misery and used his AI badge (looked like some kind of a expense card) to buy us all beverages and food.
So, collectively, AI is a garbage, but there are some individuals with a heart.
