Is this a sign of progress or regress ?.

Flashback:

1990's:
When the sons were ready for marriage and the message went out there were hoards of parents with daughters trying to get daughter married to the son. The boy had the pick of girls for marriage. The girls parents paid for the marriage, dowry and gave good quantity of gold.

2000's:
As more and more girls started getting educated and ended up with high paying jobs the boys were getting married. The girls who were getting salaries with Stock Options wanted boys with better education, higher pays and also bigger SOP's. We saw a shift towards people getting married after working together in BPO, Call Center or the SW companies. The trend was towards a SW wanting SW engineer match.

2010's:

The girls have surpassed men in education and are all ending up in good jobs. There are many a men at age 40 with no girls available for marriage. In Tamilnadu guys are not able to get girls for marriage and are going to Kerala and getting married to girls there at their cost, offering gold jewellery and NO dowry is involved.

Now a days more often the Techies are living together than getting married. Divorces are also in unprecedented numbers.

In a recent talk show in Vijay TV and also some other shows when parents of boys were quizzed by the host presenters about the sons getting married, the parents responded that they can have their choice of girls and the parents will not interfere in the same. They also mentioned that they can get married to anybody as long it is NOT a BOY.

What a change !.

Times have changed and India has progressed or Regressed ?.

As far as I noticed, the change you are refering to is that girls have become more educated, taking their own decisions, able to make choices who they want to get married to. Whereas, decade or two ago, they were married to someone who liked their beauty. Girls were not to make any choices.

Divorces are happening more now because women have found their power. Whereas they were suppressed before, not able to voice their opinion and kept on going in an unhappy relationship.

I think this is progress. In a society, everybody should live happily. If they are not happy in a relationship, they should definitely seek solutions.
