Hi All,

This was such a helpful thread for me as well. I am in similar situation, although in my case I haven't applied yet.

My partner is an international student in Alberta. Our baby (1year old) and I are hoping to join him there. The thing is, I have been reading a lot of threads regarding the process and I am seeing cases of rejection due to ties in the country.

My 2 sisters and brother are already in Canada, which might be an issue for me. However, I am the current guardian of my 2 younger brothers who are still minors and are in college. I really did not have any intention of going to Canada with my partner while he is still studying but it is just so difficult for us seeing our son grow up with out his father.

I want to overcome my "weakness" in my visa application so I am wondering if you can help me out.

Questions:
1. How much money do I need to show in my bank account for both me and my son? We will be staying for around 6-8mos in CA.

2. What documents do I need to show to strengthen my ties to Philippines?
I am planning to show:
- Current employment certificate as well as employment history proofs
- Business permit ( I operate a business)
- Enrollment Certificate (I am currently enrolled in an online school for my second bachelor's degree)
- certificate to sell for a agricultural property that my partner and I purchased (but we are still paying for it)
- certificate to sell for residential property under my partner's name
- my brothers' education info (to show that they are currently living under me)

3. what should we put in in my partner's letter of invitation?
4. what other steps/documents should we take/provide?

Thanks!
Ms. S.

You are on the right track and you have a good chance of getting a Tourist Visa to enter Canada.

The Immigration Authorities here in Canada know all about you and your Family and so answer all of their questions truthfully and you will get an entry when they scrutinize your application.

1) A good Bank Balance of $10,000 in your account for a period of Three months will keep you in good stead. Anything more will be better.

2) A letter from your Employer and a commitment from them that they will re-employ you on your return will be a very nice letter from them.

A Marriage Certificate between both of you and if it is made out in a local language, then a Translation of the same into English by a reputed Official Translator and attested by a Magistrate or a Judge will be the best.

A copy of his Study Permit or a copy of his Visa Notarized here in Canada will be required.

His Bank Balance here is also important.

A Visitor's Insurance for you and your child, while you are on your visit to Alberta is a must.

A commitment from you stating that you will return back at the expiry of your Visa for entry will carry a lot of weight.

If you are entering Canada buy an OPEN Return Ticket, that will enable you to choose a return date of your choice.

Ask for a SIX Month Visitors Visa with Multiple Entries, That will enable you to travel here in the North American Continent and might enable to extend it for a slightly longer period after you stay here for Six months.

3) Ask your Partner to provide you with his NOA if he filed any Tax returns here with CRA. Also ask him to identify himself with his current location and provide your names, address with your Passport details in his Invitation Letter to you.

If you have traveled before to nearby countries and locations and returned, then make a list of all of the countries with date of start and return for that trip is required to show that you were back into your own country at the end of the visit.

4) A letter from your PINOY Community there, stating that you are Member in Good Standing with them and your membership has been highly useful and appreciated by them.

Hope this helps.

student and spouse visa at a time
hi all

this is sandy my wife is planning to do Pd diploma 2years with co-op in lambton college Canada,
i am searching in net from last week about a proper answer. i am married can v apply for student and dependent visa at the same time i know that CIC says u can but what is success rate, some of my friends said that it is very risky like 20% chances of getting visa,
i know that there are people who got rejections for spouse visa even though their partner is in Canada on student visa. so what are the chances for both getting visa, and one more thing in my case i have traveled to uk on study permit and extended it to psw after that i applied for HSMP which was rejected so i appealed the rejection in the court, but due to personal reasons i have withdrawn the appeal case before the hearing date and came back to india. in my passport the date of arrival to india will be different to the visa expiry date. I know for sure that i haven't stayed illegally bcoz i have applead my case will that give any impact on the present case. (it was in 2010 nov)

I Know that i can apply to UK any time and they can not reject me bcoz of appealed i made but we don't want to go bcoz of the present student visa rules in uk.

so can any one please suggest me that can v apply together for Canada what will be the success rate in my case. i don't want take the risk of applying my spouse student visa first and mine later, bcoz there are chances of rejection in later period also
i also heard that VOF is not encouraging the students with spouse
i hope any one can suggest me in my case

many thanks in advance

Check the link below to see , whether you can work as a student or not..either on campus or off campus. Whether you need an additional work permit or not. It all depends and varies.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp

If you work FT , when are you going to study ? Plus you need your work schedule to be flexible with your university schedule and lectures ..most of the time the schedule will clash , and you will also spend time in going back and forth between your work and university.

Usually just some PT job for 15-20 hrs per week ON campus is the best way to go, if you want to graduate properly , get good grades and complete your education. Anything OFF campus usually ends up affecting your studies.

For every 1 hr you are in classroom , you will be spending atleast 1-2 hrs outside the classroom doing projects, term work , group assignments, studying, writing exams, writing papers etc.

The course load is pretty heavy ..so its NOT as easy as it sounds..that you will study and work at the same time.

Your employer doesn't give a shit that you are a student, all he wants is proper work from you and you coming and going on time.

Your university also doesn't care you are working..all they want is you doing your projects, term work, assignments and passing/writing exams on time..your professors and teachers could care less about what you do outside campus.

Lot of people get stressed doing both..studying and working at the same time..and can't handle it properly :(

There can be many reason for refusal.

- its funny but they might doubt your relationship - so send marriage proof along with regular communication

- Since you are married , you are adult so your parents or your In-Law's income doesn't matter.. - You have to prove you have strong financial and strong carrier ( current job , position and futuer planing which clearly reflects you will come back to India.

Also bank balance, properties etc...

Once you get rejection its not that easy , you will have to fill your questionnaire very carefully - try to apply visa for special occasion ( sharing anniversary together or valentine etc...) -

Some how you have to convinced them that you guys really miss each other so much , because study schedule your husband cant fly back so you will go see him.

again, its all about how you present your relationship and your pain of separation. - this is the only trick will get you visa.

You can take legal advice but be very careful with questionnaire - read it again and again , even one single line can change your fate. - your story has to be very genuine, it must reflects your pain...

good luck

Did she get a Dependant Visa. If so,

After you land into Canada with your Dependant (Wife), go the Halifax Immigrant Center.
Apply for a S.I.N. Social Insurance Number at the location given below. ( Very close to the University, and under two kilometers.) Also ask them how to apply for a WORK VISA. They will normally provide you with one. Getting a job there will be a little difficult. (Normally that neck of the woods the jobs are scarce. Also, currently Canada is in the dumps and jobs that you normally get are only the low paying minimum wage jobs in Restaurants and other menial ones, $10/hr or more)

Some people are born geniuses and they know typing, power point presentations and proof-reading etc., and they are in demand at the Dalhousie University and I hope your spouse is one such individual who can do all of this for all of the students there in Halifax, right under the roof you live in and make a go of it. Please check the bulletin board there at the university.
