We will be failing in our duties if we do not record the great service done by our more than 30,000 of our brave jawans in the rescue operations in the flood hit Kashmir Valley. The floods were sudden and worst to be suffered in the last 60 years. More than 4 lacs of the population have to leave their homes and are stranded. The jawans as of yesterday had rescued more than 60,000 who were sent to relief camps.

In this, the separitists and Hurriyat were nowhere to be seen. Nor the workers of the various political parties who may become busy when asked to handle and distribute the relief material to the victims. Our brave jawans were the only lot available to give a helping hand, even after many of them swept away by the floods and have died.

As expected, the CM Mr.Omar Abdullah was muted in acknowledging the exemplary work of our army, IAF and Navy. For he had called for the removal of our defence forces from J&K. The affected people of the valley who were marooned and hauled into the boats or rope walk against strong currents were able to survive only because of our defence personnel.

One could not forget the scenes of stone pelting the mobs against the very same personnel or hurl wild and baseless charges that they had shot killed innocent boys going for tuition classes. Those were the same age group who were hired and paid by anti-nationals for pelting stones. For the last more than 60 years they have been fed with the idea of ‘Kashmir and India’ and not ‘Kashmir as a part of India’ by two families with vested interests. The people of the rest of the country think twice if at all they have to go to J&K. They cannot buy or own property there. We are at a loss to understand what a majority of these people have done to the country to earn the obligation of our defence forces or the people of the rest of the nation.

Even being in India, this took me by surprise as I came to know of flooding in Kashmir only 2 days back.
Omar is in the news commenting that the centre had done nothing for the Kashmiri's during the floods. His family rules Kashmir for a significant period of time. What has he done for disaster preparedness. Did they not know that Kashmir, being at the foot hills of the himalaya's can experience flooding due to heavy monsoon or the summer heat? Always blaming others.
Kudu's to our army men / defence personnel for bailing Kashmir people out.

My Salute to the Jawans. Unfortunately their valor and humanity will go unsung.

One speech by a cleric and this act of defense personnel will be forgotten, religion will be back with venom, humanity will lose again and everything will be back to 'normal'.

One would hope that the floods would hve destroyed hatred and all efforts will go into rebuilding of Kashmir.
One good news is that the assembly polls (which were to be held in Dec. 2014 in the peak of winder) will be rescheduled and that J&K will be under presidents rule from Jan 2015. This will speed up reconstruction as the centre will be working seamlessly with the the Governer General.
Hope our dear Omar Abdullah will be defeated and BJP comes to power.

Where is Gilani and other separatists? Where are those cowards hiding? Gilani collected lot of money from people for his so called movement. May be he could make use of that money now. At least let him give a biscuit to a kid who is hungry. Omar Abdullah is fit for village politics. Nothing more than that. The state admin was never prepared for this. Shows how idiots lazy they are. Only army can rescue the people. I hope the Muslims in that state be grateful to the centre for the rescue efforts.

I hope the people there end the rule of Abdullahs and Muftis in the next election. Time to bring a Hindu CM.

True. BJP is the only option for J&K. Once BJP comes, Gilani will disappear now and come back during election time. Looks like the floods came as a blessing in disguise. Our sympathies for the 200 people who died due to floods.

Last year it was Uttarkhand, now it is JK. Is the goddess Vaishno Devi angry and/or the curse of the tens of thousands of Kashmiri Pundits who were driven away by the separatists and their supporters. Some tourists from Bangalore were looted of their valuables, some were forced to say Pakistan Zindabad. I am wondering do these kind of people deserved to be rescued? Jawans have gone all out to save people. Still some are pelting stones at the helicopters. May be they deserved to be left alone without food or water since they could support from Gilanis and Muftis. No one has heard about them since the floods started.
