Hi Gurram,

Thanks for your reply. I am planning to buy Jacket, sweater. thermal wear, gloves.
Is anything required to cover head - monkey cap or muffler or something else. These things I never used. Would be strange to wear but I want to come prepared. Rather than falling sick due to cold.

:)

Try to save money in India and buy all your required clothes HERE . Everything is much cheaper and of higher quality.
Gloves , down fill jacket ( fur ) and shoes that are suitable to weather here can be a difficult find in India. Its a long term investment that will pay you back in no time.
If you buy winter clothing after Decemeber they are always on HUGE sale ( upto 70 % off)

Dress in layers and you will be fine.

Winter gloves and Winter Cap is a must as you can get frost bite very quickly with Wind Chill. Winter shoes will prevent slip and fall in ice and snow.

Everything is heated over here, like cars, taxis, buses, malls, stores, houses, apartments, airport, office etc.

So its not like you will be out there in snow and cold weather.

Don't stay too much out doors and you will be fine. At the most 10-15 mins on the bus stop , train stop you will be in cold initially or while walking on the side walk. But rest you will be in heated places with + 22-23 C although it could be - 20 C outside. By March end winter will be over so you can relax after that. So about 2 months you will have to bear it.

Winter Clothes here will be more stylish and much better quality/warm and will last you for 10 yrs atleast.

1. $ 100 for a very good high quality Winter Jacket with Hood/Cap attached to it. Go for a 3 in 1 jacket, which is in layers, so same jacket can be used for Winter ( Very Cold ) , Fall ( Chilly but not Cold ) & Spring (Rain)
2. $ 10 for good Winter gloves
3. $ 25 for good Winter boots/shoes
4. $ 10 for good Winter Cap/Touque/hat . If the one attached to your jacket is not good enough for you.

So for about $ 150 so Rs. 7,500 you are set for Winter for the next 10 years. Clothes don't get spoiled here as you don't sweat, no pollution, no dirt and no black grease in cars, bus etc.
