Hi everyone,
My friend's Indian passport will expire in May 2017. She
booked tickets to go to India on march 5th for 3 weeks.
She just realized that her passport is expiring soon.
What are her options now? She has PR here.
Can she get the Indian passport renewed in less than a week? Whom and where she need to contact?
She need to go to India for those 3 wks in march.
Experts please advice. Your suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you very much in anticipation.
Sirisha.
She will have no issues entering or exiting India.
No issues exiting or entering Canada either. As long as her Passport and PR is not expired Canada doesn't care when she exits and re enters Canada.
The 6 Month validity rule is only applied by Indian embassy for Visa stamping and issuing. She does not need that as she is still an Indian citizen on an Indian Passport traveling back to her home country India.

Do not go for any emergency passport or Tatkal renewal scheme, from Indian embassy in Canada.
She won't get the new passport before March 5 and her old passport will be cancelled too.

Another question pls- what is the procedure to renew
Indian passport which is expired last year for a kid and adult. Just realized it today. PR card is valid though.
Your answer is much appreciated.
Thank you
Sirisha.
PLEASE ALWAYS USE BLACK INK. When you fill an application...
Passport is a must have travel document. It has to be valid for the issuance of an Airline ticket and if your friend is not taking a NON STOP flight, the airline ticketing staff in an intermediate stop can send her/him packing back to where your friend just started her/ his trip, i.e., back to Canada, if it does not have a validity for SIX More months. That is not nice. You have to renew it some time, so why not now or any time sooner, if you have the time and the opportunity to do it?
Please contact the Consulate General of India and get a straight answer from them. Also the travel agent will let you know if there will be any problem at a stop over or at a lay over also. If there is none, then get it done after landing there in India on a TATKAL Basis. The cost may be about Rs.2,000. {Also if she has any of those DUDS, the de-monitized Urpees tell her to use them too. She can if she can show that she was away from India and get it done at a Reserve Bank of India Branch.}
FH.
For TORONTO. : Most of us have an Indian Passport with TEN Year Validity. They have to normally replace the same. It generally takes 10 working days.
In the (EXPRESS) TATKAL Mode you can get it in Three days, or even faster. It will cost an additional $199.00 Canadian. But it has to be done in Person at the Consulate General's Offices. It is located at Bloor and Yonge.Street in Toronto It will cost a {A total of $301 +) The best part is at that location they will also accept CASH or a DEBIT CARD. (No credit cards.) So carry some money to pay for it.
