It looks like the financial category has been laid back..is that becoz every one is busy with Real estate transactions ??

Anyways, i started looking into self manage my retirement portfolio and exploring low cost index based ETF's.
Basically, i am binge reading CCP (couch potato) and other financial blogs lately and come to a conclusion investing in the below ETF's
time to time i might explore new ones, but for now these seems to be less volatile and more diversification...

Going for DCA strategy with 60EQ/40BND allocations in the below instruments
VAB - Canadian Bonds
VCN - Canadian equities (TSX)
VUN - US equities (S&P)
XEF - International (EAFE)
XEC - International (Emerging Markets)

If any of you are already self managing ETF's, please share your inputs or feedback.

Your CC portfolio is good.
For S&P 500, I prefer IVV or the big granddaddy in this space - the SPY.
I believe the VUN is CAD$ hedged - why are you hedging the currency?

Are you investing in other asset classes, besides equities and bonds?
Ideally, you can diversify with gold and real estate as well.
Look into a global or US based real estate ETF as well as PM exposure via an allocated gold and silver ETF such as the Central Fund or Canada, managed by Sprott.

I like the CC approach, but keep in mind that the entire premise of this strategy is based on the negative correlation between stocks and bonds, which has been true only since the mid 1980s (the post inflationary world).
Therefore, the track record of the CC only goes back about 35 years.

Look into something with a longer track record such as the Permanent Portfolio.
In that, you have PM allocation as well.

Happy to discuss further.
