World's tallest building in India
NEW DELHI: Delhi is looking skywards with the world's tallest 135-storey building which may soon come up in Noida, a satellite township on the outskirts of Delhi.
The proposed skyscraper that is set to come up in Noida may unseat the Taipei tower, currently the world's tallest building.
The skyscraper is set to be built as part of an ambitious Noida City Centre in Uttar Pradesh.
The design has been conceptualised by Mumbai-based architect Hafeez Contractor, which has been accepted by the Noida Authority, its chairman and chief executive officer Deo Dutt Sharma it was reported on Tuesday.
"The proposal is still at a very preliminary stage and aspects like the cost and related activities have also to be worked out," he said to a leading Indian daily.
The authority has set up a six-member committee to study the viability of the project and also visit Kuala Lumpur where the world's second tallest building, Petronas Twin Towers, is located, Noida Authority officials said.
The proposal would then be forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh state government for approval, they said.
The contractor has proposed a number of other architectural marvels for the City Centre bordering Delhi, including buildings that resemble the Himalayas.
