Jammu, Feb 6 (IANS) Toilets with bio-digester technology should urgently be installed on pilgrimage routes and at tourist posts in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor N.N. Vohra said Wednesday. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the bio-digester based eco-friendly toilets and gave a presentation to the governor, an official spokesperson said. Vohra, chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, asked boards' officials to prepare project reports on feasibility of installing such toilets at Baltal and Nunwan base camps and on the route to Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir. Vohra asked for a similar report for installation of these toilets on the route between Katra to Bhawan in Jammu, where the Vaishno Devi shrine is located. The governor said there was a need for urgently utilising the technology developed by the DRDO for eco-friendly solution to treat human waste. Possibilities should also be explored for installation of these bio-toilets at tourist spots, he said.
