Express your love with platinum this Valentine's Day

New Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS) Do you want to pick a stylish gift with heirloom-quality for you partner? Go for platinum jewellery. From heart-shaped pendants, customised rings to bracelets -- the options are many.

According to Vijay Jain, chief executive officer, Orra, platinum is becoming the best pick during Valentine's Day.

"Platinum is a trendy metal and is a perfect Valentine's Day gift. Because of its white colour, it is the perfect symbol of purity. They are rare, pure and eternal - all the adjectives that define true love. Just like true love that never wears off even as time passes, similarly platinum doesn't lose its sheen," he told IANS.

In India people prefer gold, but now platinum jewellery is getting popular too especially because "platinum grows stronger and harder the more it is worn, which proves highly beneficial especially if your rings are a permanent fixture," said Amar Nanavati, chief executive officer, Pure Gold Jewellers.

"That is why 80 percent of sales of platinum jewellery are rings, especially wedding and engagement bands," he added.

During Valentine's Day demand goes up.

"There is a charm of platinum... We have jewellery, especially engagement rings, made in platinum that can be customised according to a buyer's preference," Guido Damiani, president and chief executive officer, Damiani, told IANS.

Orra has come up with unique platinum couple collection.

"For Valentine's Day, customers buy pendants, small sets and rings too. Orra has a collection of platinum rings called Orra Platinum Couples (OPC), the perfect rings for those planning to pop the question to their loved one. These complementary rings are also ideal for weddings and engagements. We have also launched a range of pendants specially for Valentine," said Jain.

Pallavi Foley, a Bangalore-based jewellery-designer, has also come up with her platinum collection.

She feels rings and pendants are the most sought after trends in platinum.

"I have a classic Valentine collection called "twisted love" and we plan to do the line in platinum as well this year. We do get a lot of custom specific orders for platinum and metal. I recently designed a cocktail ring with platinum and tanzanite. I think they work so phenomenally together," Foley told IANS.

In terms of price, platinum pendants are available at Rs.12,000 upwards by many brands; it can also go up to Rs.50,000 and more.

"Price depends on the product. It varies from market to market," said Damiani,.
