Tree plantation to mark Syedna's 102nd birthday

Mumbai, Feb 17 (IANS) A tree plantation drive has begun here in a run up to the 102nd birthday celebrations of Dawoodi Bohra spiritual head Syedna Mohammed Burhannuddin, a family member said Sunday.

The campaign was initiated Saturday evening with a goal of distributing 500,000 saplings, said Taikhoom Mohyiuddin of the Burhani Foundation (India) (BFI) and grandson of Syedna.

The initiative marked the completion of 50 years of Syedna as Dai al-Mutlaq (spiritual head) of the community. Syedna's birthday falls on March 6.

According to BFI, in Mumbai 80,000 trees will be planted subject to permission from authorities.
