Iran not pursuing n-arms, says Khamenei

Tehran, Feb 22 (IANS) Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday that Tehran is not pursuing nuclear weapons.

Khamenei's remarks came after the latest round of talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were wrapped up Tuesday in Tehran.

This was the second visit by IAEA delegates to Iran in less than a month aiming to solve the substantive issues over Iran's controversial nuclear programme, Xinhua reported.

Iran wants to break "the authority of powers that are relying on their nuclear arms", the official IRNA news agency quoted Khamenei as telling the Iranian nuclear experts.

He said assassinations of Iranian experts only indicate the "weakness" of Iran's "enemies".

Iranian officials and IAEA experts held closed-door meetings Monday and Tuesday on the issue but failed to reach any agreement.

IAEA director Yukiya Amano said Wednesday that no agreement was reached with Iran over its nuclear issue.
