Brussels, March 21 (IANS) European Union (EU) Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton has expressed hope that a mutually acceptable solution be found with regard to the case of two Italian marines detained in India. She was speaking with a delegation of Italian members of the European parliament in Brussels Tuesday. Her spokesman Michael Mann said in a statement Wednesday that she informed them about contacts with Indian authorities, the EuAsiaNews reported. The marines were detained over the killing of two Indian fishermen Feb 15. Ashton assured that she is following the situation very closely. She referred to the strong cooperation with India in the fight against piracy and the willingness to work together to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. "She also took this opportunity to express her deep concern about the kidnapping of two Italian nationals in the state of Orissa (Odisha) March 17. "She indicated that her services were following this issue closely in direct contact with Italian counterparts," the statement added.
