14 killed in Somalia suicide bombing

Mogadishu, Sep 21 (IANS) At least 14 people, including three journalists and a number of Somali government officials, were killed and many others injured in two suicide bombings at a bar in the Somali capital, Xinhua reported.

Witnesses said two suicide bombers came to the bar Thursday. One was armed with a gun and sprayed bullets at customers at the Village Cafe before detonating his explosives.

The second bomber detonated his explosives in another part of the bar in Hamarweyne district, that is frequently visited by government officials and journalists.

Liban Ali Nur, a prominent figure with Somalia's National Television and Radio Mogadishu, was among the slain journalists.

At least seven other people were injured.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Al Qaeda affiliated radical group Al Shabaab is known for such attacks against government targets.

Mogadishu has been relatively stable since Al Shabaab was forced to pull out in August 2011 after a major offensive by African Union peacekeeping troops and Somali government forces.
