Our Native Country!: Are there any Indians or are we just a bunch of Gujjus, Bongs, Sikhs, Brahmins,
Started by: Big B on 11 Feb 2006
   ...
Orginally posted by alexm Something I also thought about and raised a while back... Seems like most of the Indians on this board like to move in their own circles/community...ie being Gujju/Tamil/Mallu/etc is more important than being Indian. Good luck on your search for 'Indians' . :D
Thanks for your good wishes. I would be interested to know what responses you got and how you define an Indian and how you choose your freinds.

Citizenship: dual citizenship
Started by: roshah on 13 Feb 2006
...friends, currently indian governement unveiled dual citizenship for indians, which is correct step after lots of wait, But i have found that those who lives in USA has to pay only 275 $ (US) while In canada we have to pay 421$ Canadian,Looking current exchange ratio it looks we have to pay 70$ more for same service. We have to raise this question with GOI and Indian high commision. I hope we will raise enough awareness for this differnce .:(

Our Native Country!: What is this nonsense about Sunita Willaims?
Started by: desi in ottawa on 21 Sep 2007
   ...
Originally posted by puttoo ... it was her choice .......
For sure. I was refering to the HUGE debate on CD whereby people said that She was not an 'Indian'. It has been mentioned even after. In other words I am not questioning the historical facts. In the wider context, wrt this topic, I am questioning the rationale behind people deciding who is and who IS not an 'Indian' based on 'guessing' what the other person 'thinks' or 'feels'. We ARE a gifted lot are'nt we :D ?

ROI in Canada for real estate investment is not very attarctive. or is better to invest in Gold or property in India? What do you think is best option to retain and possibly increase the value of money?

Our Native Country!: Divorce question for a friend
Started by: tamilkuravan on 08 Mar 2013
...\"Canadian citizen with OCI and working in India\". hmm..sounds eerily similar to someone i know. ;) To the best of my knowledge, rule of the land where one stays applies. For instance, if a Indian immigrant gets divorced in Canada, does Indian law apply for his case? Obviously, not. You might want to check with a local lawyer and also the Canadian consulate in india to get the complete picture.

Rasoi & Restaurants: Why are Indian Buffet restaurants so expensive?
 Started by: mercury6 on 13 Jan 2004
...Went to Sangam today after a long time and turns out they've dropped their prices. Its now 6.99 for the Lunch buffet, which isn't bad at all. Food is reasonable and these guys have the most variety I've seen, both veg and non-veg. Lots of desserts too. And on Tuesdays, its a buy one get one free! Two people can have the buffet and walk out paying less than 10 dollars if they get stingy on the tip. My Cdn. colleagues love this place.

Now since one of the parents was a Indian citizen at some point, your child is eligible for OCI. Here's the link from BLS which has a list of the documentation required.
