   ...Reviving this old thread once more , does anyone know of stores selling good futon mattresses ? Hiren ~ have you switched on to the Sultan mattress and if yes , do you recommend them v/s a good futon mattress . I have zeroed down on a hard wood platform bed at a Chinese store (close to DQ Mississauga - Dundas and having all unique rosewood furniture) , mattress remains next . Thanks .

Yep, they are from Calcutta - a pic of Victoria Memorial is on the wall:) Also v good is China Palace in the AMC theatre complex at Derry E & Hurontario. The only con to China Palace is that their portions are small - Ming Room has better value for money I didn't like Salt n Pepper - not v tasty.

   ...Nope. Not possible. The max. benefit of EI is only up to max. of 52 weeks and nothing more. Like in case, my EI is still left in Canada but after the end of the year, I will have no claim to EI. You can try second career and things like that. The govt. expects you to visit Food banks after your EI runs out or try the welfare options. The welfare options does not work out if you have money or things more than $ 3000 Welcome to Canada.    Job market scene: ... I didnt gave much time to Canada, and here its difficult to even get a floor cleaning job. Locals/Whites dont recognize anything colored and there are gangs of every color around . Indian people dont like whites and wont let them in their homes, if you live in places with large Indian population you job applications are not even replied back. If you want to have a non-indian majority white/canadian address then rents are 5-6 times and houses are even worse- older enough to get you sick. All I got from 4 months of searching was a direct tele sales job which I left in a day as it was more of a scam. I give you mantra for Indian in Canada - INDIAN "PUNJABI" - DRIVE A TAXI IN...

It will also be a big slap in the face of these Multi-nationals who have hyped up the Indian team to be a sure cup-winner. I just came back from India and every single commercial is asking the "MEN IN BLUE" to bring back the cup. It'll be so much more fun to watch those commercials now...:D I hope we don't make it to the next round so that there is a big shake-up in the team...otherwise its gonna be the same crap for the next 4 yeras.

   ...od question. Frankly, the only way I see myself save is if my spouse also earns and you can leave your kids with your parents (they should be PR) instead of day care. One more thing to check, is why do you want to save? Govt takes care of basic pension and healthcare in old age. You just need to pay for house / car mortgage, food and utilities. The mindset in Canada needs to be different from India, there is no need to think of leaving property and money for your kids.

   ...Interesting topic. Having over 30 family friends over the last 15 years, I was considering myself very social but all of them are desi. I think the main barriers for me are food habits (being vegetarian) and culture. I was not born and brought up here so find it difficult to align with. I have few friendly office colleagues but can’t count them as friend. Another interesting realization – I never felt necessity to have a non-desi friend. Period.

That is how I landed up my first job. I used to go agency to agency handing out my resume. A lady was kind enough to check my knowledge in excel and data entry.    ...Yoga and brisk walking would help a lot. Southies need to cut down eating white rice. I have also observed that vegetarians (mainly for women) lack iron in the diet. Look at supplements (thru a doctor). Northies, please cut down on the cream and butter / ghee from the daily food. Coffee and tea taste better without sugar. Well, I am not perfect. I love fried stuff (veggies) and pizza. But I have cut down other things to balance out. I snack a lot, so my lunch and dinner are small. dio
