At times, desis manage to obtain the certi saying that their indian degree is equivalent to canadian. There's lot of fees involved. But in the job market, the local guys are usually preferred over immigrants without any local experience. Some desis luck out!! So we should always keep high hopes.

Look for an apartment in a building where there are some Indian/Pakistani families. This way you can built up a support system and also when you take up a job, you can get a cheap day care for your child. Normally desi families will charge $2 an hour for keeping your child whereas registered day care will be very expensive.

The Indian Counsulate website of Toronto says that they admit only 45 people per day for OCI and that the head count takes places at 8:00 am. Any expereinces as to how early I should reach there? I know by common sense that I should not line up on a Monday or Friday since out of the area people are more likely to line up on those dates than others. Real situations would be much appriciated. Just wondering when given a choice, why would anyone in their right mind now pay in C$? Thats a big saving and I am glad I did not apply earlier for OCI specially considering we are a family of 3. I do not know how far this is true. The CGI assured me that if i have the OCI card and the Cancelled stamp, no further action is required from my part. Moral of the story: The VFS call centre staff are not always well informed.    name corrrection: ...ation before landing...my son' s passport did not carry the surname..as I had applied through an agent they suggested me to get that corrected by adding the surname through Indian passport office...this prevented me from getting into the situation as yours... Probably you might have to handle this as change of name request instead of correction.
