You'd be shocked at the amount of langar (community kitchen, i.e. free food in your words), and off course the variety. For the last 16 years I've been attending the same every year with my family. And this is just one, there are other smaller parades by individual Gurudwaras at other times of the year. Holi is celebrated at various Temples with great pomp and joy. Similarly for Diwali being celebrated at the Temples and Gurudwaras. My kids enjoy fireworks...

   I love home made pickle...: ...ed a bubble pack to cushion. In short I babied the consignment. It reached home ( Canada) safe. It tastes great. The rest of the stuff is available here, the dried fish such as anchovies are in eight ounce see through pack. Salt Cod is available in plenty. Bombelli, is there in a few Indian Stores. Coconut shavings are in the freezer section. Costs about three bucks. Coconuts are 99 cents. Good Quality. In some places it is slightly higher. You will need one of the coconut shavers to get the texture of the shavings or fire the chunks in a blender, then save. Hope this helps a little.    Have u made any investments there????: ...about this. Anyhow being a fellow NRI a freindly and cautious gesture please scrutinise things before you make any investmest there. Recent trend in Chennai is a ground on the so called IT Corridor of Sholinganallur sells at about 40 Lacs. With these price I don't see many resident indian willing to invest and hence these realtors are after NRI's. Last week when I was in Dubai I could see a big quantum of Players from India exhibiting thier properties... be it be Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune , Chennai or the GOD's own country...!!! So BEWARE.......
