... Raunaq Singh learnt the elementary lessons of business skills while being employed as a salesman of a steel pipes merchant in Lahore earning Rs 8 a month — a princely amount in those times. The seeds of entrepreneurship were planted when Raunaq Singh cashed in on an opportunity thrown up by the dearth of waterpipes in the areas around Lahore. The profits he, thus , earned were ploughed back in the form of setting up his own business in steel pipes. The pangs of post-Partition and its aftermath soon pushed Raunaq Singh back to the brinks of penury. However, displaying exemplary determination, he put brick by brick to take on the might of established giants in steel tube manufacturin...

The positive thing, of course, is the Canadian medical system which is still lot more reliable than Indian. In India, you have to know good doctors. Here too, bad doctors are there but even they meet certain minimum standards. Overall, Canada is not all that great, but I have to live somewhere. Going back to India has its own problems. Jobs: Need Advice on moving in my current situation.

To set Healthcare straight: ...is is the only country (and may be UK) where Stephen Harper (the PM) and you could be operated by the same doctors a triple by pass surgery and eat the same Hospital food and lie on beds in the same ward. So it is a great system. However, I will agree with Web2000 about the shortcomings like the underfundedness, shortage of doctors/ nurses etc... But with all these things FREE and COMMON to 33 million residents we have to understand. India too has free healthcare like Canada but it is grossly misused. Govt. Doctors spend an hour in the hospital (rest for Private practice), steal medicines / surgery equipments, donot perform surgery etc. Besides we have a 2 tire system there. Also what i...

Life: Operation Bluestar - What do you think?

   ...
Originally posted by sguk We salute and acknowledge Sikhs for fighting for rights of human being from Mughal period until Indian freedom. And beyond. Right it until this very day.    ...uote]Originally posted by CAN-DE OK very related to the topic, I am going to give a very different picture for what happens when a DESI gets a job in Canada. We just hired an proffessional in our office where I am working since 7 yrs. The guy is Indian and was looking for job from last 2 yrs and surviving through odd jobs. He was very happy on the first day of the job and especially meeting me so that he can have some desi talking. But the guy just couldn't speak English properly. I mean he was understanding it, but was not fluent and because of that there was quite a few odd moments where people ask him some question & he didn't gave a related answer & just walked ...

...o be a democratic state, you won't find even a single channel where people are allowed to joke about Indian government. In Pakistan their are more than 20 channels and we have many discussion channels
"Geo TV, the country's largest and perhaps most popular news channel, was the last one to be allowed to go back on air. But the restored Geo News transmissions are without their leading news anchors. Hamid Mir is one of them. "As far as Pakistani media is concerned we are still under emergency rule," says Mr Mir. "All the news anchors, including myself, who are still banned from doing their programmes, are those who questioned Gen Musharr...

Our Native Country!: India, the chinese colony?

...a. More of this later in this piece. The other exports of India include low price yielding commodities and primary products like copper, salt, sugar, vegetable oil and leather but there is also cotton yarn and electric machinery. But Indian companies are crying hoarse that the Chinese ease restriction of entry of Indian pharmaceuticals and IT. On paper, Chinese exports to India include fertilizers, vehicles, furniture, prefab buildings and manmade filaments. But anybody with a discerning eye and staying in India knows that the Chinese products of all sizes and dimensions have flooded the markets in India. This could include even include Kutchi handicrafts, kites, lanterns and hospital b...

I'm consquently stuck here in a hotel in North York, and know absolutely no-one in town, and checking with the airline, its too expensive for me to fly back to SFO today. I'm 30/male/South Indian, have lived in the US for the past 15 years, primarily in San Francisco. I work in marketing/advertising, on the \"ideas\" side of things. I'm a normal, funny guy who just happens to be stuck in another country for the New Year :-) I feel a bit silly making this post, but I was wondering if there were any groups getting together that might want to include another fella for tonight. Life: Why Immigrate to Canada?
 Started by: jake3d on 11 Mar 2004
...__________ Money is a reason, though I think I can make enuf in India also with my qualification, but that wud be enuf for India only. Whenever u travel anyplace in India, u see a whole lots of Firangs. And it's not that they are rich ppl travelling around. For an Indian to travel around in India itself wud require a reasonable amount of money. And one can't think of going to say canada for vacations. So a strong currency does make a difference. __________________________________ Very honest opinion! Really appreciate that! Thats what happens when we see lot of Firangs on Sar-zameene-hind.
