The issue is not whether Illaiyaraja has been awarded or not but the way they have awarded A.R.Rahman also the same award along with him. A.R.Rahman is a superstar and also a very talented musician with a global reach and also has won the golden globe and the Oscars. On the other hand, the Black African and Hispanic populations are much less than any American city. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that Canada is probably the most racially tolerant country in the world. Unfortunately, however, racism does raise its ugly head from time to time. I am contemplating HD antenna installation for my TV to receive local free to air channels. Any option to receive Indian channels, may be off the Internet? I can pay for the latter, but don't want the service interruptions. Is it a viable wishlist in this technological day and age? I have gone through various threads here but didn't find any concrete answers as to what are the optimal and cheapest options available. Most are conflicting. Please do let me know if anyone is paying less than what I mentioned above, with good service/quality. Thanks in advance. ...

Think with a total perspective: ...veryplace wherever you live to accept in totality. Everywhere you will find positive as well as negative points. In canada there are various problems we have to face for exxample shortage of doctors parking charges too high job market too low low recognition of Indian Education But as I mentioned earlier, there are positive things as well. When I decided to migrate, I did for the good education of my kids. So it was solely mydecision and I do not regret at all. I am quite happy although there is a need of adjustment in some areas. No problem, down the road it is helping me to make me more strong and strong to fight against the odds. So cheer up. If you decided once for all, best ...

Where to settle: Convince me - Calgary !

...at you are into... check http://www.workopolis.com and find out the state of your chances yourself... there is a decent sized desi community in calgary, but pretty much all concentrated in the north east part of the city (which is also the most crime prone - go figure)... there are a bunch of indian stores spread out, but again most in the NE... obviously not like toronto (which sucks in my opinion)... standard of living in calgary is excellent.. the people are friendly... and the city is exploding at the seams because more and more people are giving up the comfort zone of toronto and vancouver, and looking elsewhere, and (surprise surprise) calgary is where they end up... edmonton ...

Good luck! Edit: Contrary to some posters, I am yet to find a single Indian immigrant in my 12 years that hasn't settled well in Canada and is not doing better. In any case, you have only your own to make decisions taken your own circumstances into account. People (like me) could only provide with the anecdotal experience. You experience by your own and many factors do contribute to your own success/failure....

Pity on you: ...here; all stratas of society. Be it a Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, or the one belong to any other caste/creed. Sick and tired of these backward fellows flew from India 25-30 years ago, who don't really know how to live peacefully in this beautiful and peaceful nation. If you guys have any issues with Indian Govt., please go and give them a white paper. Merely spreading hatred in this country will not achieve anything. Everyone knows where this propoganda is coming from; who are the friends & foes of India. Need to say more? Well, I (and you too) know you won't do it. Just a laughing stock for me :) May Almighty God give you and to the people alike, some peace!! ta...ta.. ...

People will still remember the Watergate scandal, all that gossip about her and Bill breaking up, their daughter out of control, etc. Also, her openly liberal stands on issues like Health Care etc. are resisted by many folks on the fence. There are middle class people in the US that would rather vote for a yellow dog than Clinton - she will face a lot of such resistance, which Obama does not have to deal with because he has no history. Anyhow, it'll be interesting to see how the next little bit shapes up. ...

That's pretty much it. Most of them are in heavy student debt upon graduation and struggle to get good jobs. Especially the immigrant students, the Chinese & Indian students. Most international students go back to their home country or US or do minimum wage jobs in Canada. Thank you very much. I bet your daughter is paying 3 times the fees of the local students as an international student. This is a very nice scam by Canadian universities to loot international students. They banned you. But they will never ban yo...

I am appalled by this barrage of so much criticism about my posting. thanx banjara for jumpin' to conclusion and showing a typical "indian mindset". some three months ago it was biomed who "attacked ma personality" and labelling me a "cantankerous " for no apparent reason. he was desperate to know something coming from me to help a lotta distressed desis, and i was just taking it easy. he (and some of his buddys) exposed himself like a weirdo. i got no bad blood with anybody. however, if challenged then....... coming back to ur start of ur posting "as a person who has held reasonably senior level manag...

Sometimes u make it sound as if its easy enough for an average Indian CA to visit US to clear his CPA then come back and then apply for Canada .That sounds impractical like most of your other arguments . Talking of substantiating I am still awaiting ur "own" found statistics .Somehow you arent coming out with it . I aint doubting the CD poll but pray read the whole forum from day 1 and u may have the exact poll in front of you . And Yes I recall this IIM related statement of mine from the IMS study material .IMS ,Tardeo Rd Mumbai happen to be major Trainers for CAT Applicants ........ The Indian extension of our organization does just that. Now they do hire a lot of senior people but majority of them are junior that the senior guys have to mentor. As of today, when an IT resource applies for a job in a company in India, it has become a norm for the resources to ask for "onsite oppurtunity" which means a short trip to US or Canada depending on where the parent company/cli...
