Sports: Ind vs Aus 1st Test - India clinches a thriller at Mohali
 Started by: desi-friend on 05 Oct 2010
...rapped Ojha on the pads only to have a strong lbw shout denied. Adding to the commotion, Ojha wandered out of his crease and a throw from gully that would have found him short missed the stumps and ran away for four overthrows. When the winning leg-byes arrived, the Indian players streamed onto the field as the Australians thrust hands on heads. For sheer on-field tension, the finish ranked up there with Australia's last-minute SCG win of 2007-08. But that match was overshadowed by claims of poor sportsmanship; this time there should be no such post-script. http://www.cricinfo.com/india-v-australia-2010/content/current/story/479976.html http://cricketnext.in.com/news/indaus-ind-need...

A complant was filed with the Borivli police, Ghuge said. The tantrik was then arrested and charged under Sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating) and 506 (threatening to kill) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been remanded to judicial custody till September 3. Investigations reveal that the tantrik hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and has cheated several persons. Though his diaries contain the names and telephone numbers of several persons whom he has cheated, none of them has lodged police complaints.[/quote] http://www.indianexpress....

General: WHY ARE THE DESIS ALWAYS COMPLAINING AND GRIPING (READ "WHY DON'T THEY PACK THEI
 Started by: STHIRU18 on 30 Oct 2004
WHY ARE THE DESIS ALWAYS COMPLAINING AND GRIPING (READ "WHY DON'T THEY PACK THEIR BAGS AND GO HOME?): ... am tired of hearing how canadian society does not "recognise Indian educational degrees (where for a few thousand rupees, one can buy a degree certificate), or how people who are doctors and engineers become cabbies (from a country where the conditions for success includeis whether you were born a "harijan" (read SC/ST). or not. Even to this day in my "Mera Bharat Mahaan", your shortcomings, lack of education or skills can be looked the other way if you can bribe your way into a job. Or simply put, you can be the best candidate for the job, but if you can't afford to bribe the minister (or his personal secretary, the ubuquitious "chaprasi, peon or Attender...

Jobs: Indians face discrimination in New Zealand
Started by: desi in ottawa on 07 Apr 2005
...e unfortunately. Plenty of jobs to go around for everyone in NZ and OZ, but when it comes to people of asian descent jobs available to them are at the lowest rung of the ladder i.e labour jobs. An Indian/Asian name, appearance and accent can guarantee you a familiarity with the 'employment available' column in the newspaper for a long time. I know of desis who then consider themselves lucky and content having employment at some supermarket or as a Security Guard, taxi driver etc. Though taxi drivers do make good money in NZ & OZ as I understand. Both Aussies and Kiwis take it for granted that the English spoken by them is easily understood and if it is not you should probably not ...

Life: An open letter to a "specific person"

Agreed: ...e here just because of their relative or on refugee status, Canada is sure a land of gold. FOr people coming from other parts of world, where there is political unrest or human right abuse, Canada is a haven for them. For an Indian professional who has lived in metropolis or big cities - yes, life in Canada is a struggle during initial years. Once you settle down, you realize, life in Canada is not that bad after all. It is more a matter of developing a positive attitude. But then - change is always unwelcome, and it takes time before you adjust to your new conditions. Some are able to survive their struggle, some are not. Yes. There are many things that I miss about India. But a...

Those living in india are pretty much used to the conditions there ...for those who are accustomed and have their children born and grow up in a very different and safe environment , it would take a lot of mental and physical grit to settle happily back in india. Another thing people talk about is extreme climate in canada.... and it is funny that people in gulf worry about it more . Climate in canada is just as extreme as it is in Middle east . just that mercury dips on the opposite side here:D ..there one's car gets stuck in sand here it gets stuck in snow. a few times in winter...but its an experience , one enjoys it in retrospect. but we hardly feel the b...

And wasn't it NaMo who said that the money brought in would be equivalent to 15 lacs per Indian citizen ?? How long do you expect should be the timeline for that ..... 50 years , 10 years , 5 years , 3 years or 100 days as claimed by their own leaders ??? These kind of tall claims and then not being able to deliver upon them .... has been one of the reasons why NaMo and BJP lost in Bihar . Our Native Country!: Kaun Banega Pardhan Mantri?

...s Commentary, Sandip Roy, Pacific News Service, May 13, 2004 Editor's Note: India's voters confounded surveys by choosing the Congress Party, led by Italian-born Sonia Gandhi, instead of the ruling BJP. Who are these unpredictable Indian voters? "Stunning" is the word everyone is using to describe the Indian electoral results. The verdict in India, however, didn't stun Indians. It stunned the pollsters, who had all confidently predicted that the ruling BJP coalition would return to power. The only question was the margin of victory. Watching the steady drip of Kerry-47, Bush-45 American polls here, I realize how much juice opinion polls suck out of the electoral pro...

"The government made lots of promises, but it hasn't done much," Ms. Mukhtaran said bluntly. She has had to buy food for the police who protect her, as well as pay some school expenses. So, she said, "I've run out of money." Unless the schools can raise new funds, they may have to close. Meanwhile, villagers say that relatives of the rapists are waiting for the police to leave and then will put Ms. Mukhtaran in her place by slaughtering her and her entire family. I walked to the area where the high-status tribesmen l...
