Citizenship: Current Status for Citizenship Oath in Toronto
Started by: farooqzaidi on 14 Jan 2004
...am sure you would hear from them very soon for the test. Hopefully much before march end. I am told that they simply take away your PR card when they give you Citizenship Card/Certificate or if you do not have the PR card, then they VOID your IMM 1000 (landing document attached to your passport) and they do not bother about your Indian Passport. Now with the dual citizenship bill passed by India in Parliament (both houses) and waiting for just President's assent, you do not have to surrender your Indian Passport to Indian Counsulate as well. Indian consulate would update the website www.cgitoronto.ca as to what procedure to follow to keep both citizenships (if you want to) in a couple o...

Financial Planning: NRE & NRO accounts closure on Return back to India permanently. Question???
Started by: MITRON on 11 Nov 2019
...Obviously, if you live less than 180 days in India after your return (tax year), you don't need to file Indian taxes but you will have to pay the Canuck taxes. After this first tax year, if you make even one dollar a year in Canada, or you keep health card driver's license, etc.... you remain a resident of Canada and hence you owe taxes forever! I get a provincial and some Federal pension for the rest of life so I have no luxury of thinking about ever not paying or owing a to CRA. For this reason, and fo...

Grocery stores (Indian) make sure that they are there within 5 mins drive of the desi's. Where this is not met, there will always be a desi to open up a store. People now shop only for basic indian items like dal, Indian soap, Indian sweets, Wheat, Indian packaged frozen foods at Indian stores. Rest they look at FB, Or No Frills or the local chinese stores. Citizenship: what happens in Citizenship Oath?
Started by: snehalbpatel on 26 Jan 2006
...Bad planning....:p You cannot use your Indian passport to enter Canada anymore. It is illegal to even use the Indian passport. You can try to get emergency Canadian passport. Next working day. If you get citizenship on Thursday , you can get passport on Friday. Run to the Indian consulate for emergency visa. You should be able to make it... Best of luck! Keep us posted on how it works out..
