Historic low Canadian Immigration Express Entry Cut-off Draw

By arvinbhaskar

The Express Entry Canadian Immigration draw, closely watched by immigration community both service providers and who apply under this class, took place on May 17, 2017, with the historic low Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off at 415 points. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent out 3, 687 Invitations to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

This means those who applied, to immigrate to Canada, under the Express Entry Class are placed in the Express Entry Pool. Based on key criteria, applicants in the pool are assigned points. Typically, twice a month the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announces cut-off points. Applicants in the Express Entry pool, who have equal to or more than the cut-off points are invited to submit their immigration application within, a set timeframe, currently 90 days. These applications are processed by the IRCC within 6 months, meaning, the applicant with their families would be in Canada by or before the year end.

The immigration Ranking System, pioneered by Canada, admired and emulated by countries like Australia, New Zealand, and the USA, has evolved over time. But its focus and objective still remain the same, economic growth.

The historic low cut-off of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), initial highest 886, begs the question how low the cut-off may go, the answer is anyone’s guess. But, it does means, those aspiring to migrate under Express Entry Class should be in the Express Entry pool.
